It’s our last day on the boat. We spent most of the day outside, attempting to catch more fish. They won’t bite today! But we have all taken breaks to get ice cream, the boat crew says that they have to tell those who get the food that our S-A-S crew eat more ice cream than they have ever seen. (While I tried to limit it to one per day, I have been severely unsuccessful). We have a few chores here and there to get ready to head back to land. The heat during the day is very intense, being outside (sitting and chatting or working) past noon is a hot and sweaty experience. Most of us have adjusted to our sea legs and I find myself not falling against the walls as often. The noon-midnight crew; myself, Helena, Hazel, Grady and Sam have bonded so well, I feel like I’ve been friends with them for ages!
Great end to the day! We saw a pod of dolphins come to the front of the boat and ride the waves. We all came together for one last sunset watch and card games. Overall a great 10/10 day and a great end to the cruise.
Today has been a much needed break from the hard work.
This cruise has been an absolutely life changing experience, and I can’t wait to start our research projects next semester.
Noon to midnight crew, SAS students Grady Burling, Hazel Schaub, Emma Stokes, Helena Duarte and Sam Taylor from left to right.
A funny story told over burgers and mac for lunch.
