Today was the second day of the cruise, but the first shift for me! The shift started at 12am. At every site we used the niskin bottles for CTD and shipek for sediment grabs. At one of the sediment grabs, we got a bunch of forams all gathered up in one corner. After we collected our samples from the sed grab, I pulled out one of the forams and took a picture of the little guy. The sunrise that morning was beyond anything I could have imagined! It takes about an hour to get from one site to the next unless we are going south to the next line of sites which can take anywhere from 2 to 3 hours. Between decent stretches of time we played uno, rummy, pitch, and more. Everyone was getting super competetive and it was really fun! After a while, we finally arrived to the site where we would be doing a vibracore which was so super exciting! We got it all prepped and ready and sent it down! When we brought it up, the core was not excessively long, so we cut off the part with the sediment and prepped another one on the same metal piece. We sent it down for a second time and got another core about the same length. It was really cool to do a vibracore with a frame like this since its very different than the vibracore we do for geooce.
