The Digital Divide VoiceThread

Artifact Introduction: 

This module contains my Digital Divide VoiceThread which presents my research on the Digital Divide, the effects of the divide on education, and ways my region and school district are working to combat this issue.

Module 4 Objectives/Goals:

• Explore the issue of the Digital Divide by researching what it is and how your region, parish/county, and school district is dealing with the effects of the divide. 

• Create a VoiceThread presentation to present your findings. Be sure to include one or more definitions of the Digital Divide, demographics for your region and parish/county, and programs or initiatives meant to help bridge the gap.

Reflection:

The information I gathered through my research while creating my Digital Divide VoiceThread was astonishing. Prior to completing this presentation, I wasn't aware that the issue of the Digital Divide stretched far beyond a lack of access to devices. While that is the primary issue, it involves so much more. There are gaps in access to reliable WiFi and internet, a lack of technological skills needed to navigate online resources, and inequality in access for underserved communities just to name a few. This assignment really opened my eyes to the need for programs and policies that increase access and education for all. Going forward, I plan to research more programs and other initiatives that help ensure reliable internet access for all learners and their families.
