Reading books
At school we follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme. This scheme ensures that the books children are reading are completely matched to their phonic ability. This means that they will not come across a word that they can't decode and the flow of their reading disrupted. Matched books also mean children need to put less effort into decoding as they are secure at recognising the graphemes within words.
You may feel that the book sent home is too easy as your child can read it quickly, however this is actually exactly what we want! Children can work on reading with more automaticity and ultimately gain a greater understanding of the text.
This may also means your child occasionally brings home a book they have had previously had. We are aware this is not always ideal however this is necessary for the child to progress in their reading.
