STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 24th April 2026
Dear Families
What a fantastic week it has been here at school! It has been a joy to walk through the corridors and see the children so deeply engaged in their learning. From tackling challenging new concepts to collaborating on creative projects, the pupils have shown incredible focus and a real "can-do" attitude. Their hard work is truly paying off, and the vibrant energy across the classrooms has been wonderful to witness.
We are also excited to share the latest updates from our Pupil Parliament. This year, as an Academy Trust, the parliament has collectively decided that their core mission will be Wellbeing. We want every child to feel supported, happy, and healthy during their time at school. Leading the way with this are our fantastic ambassadors, Cariad (Y5) and Alistair (Y5). They are particularly keen to hear from their peers about how we can enhance the lunchtime experience in the hall.
Cariad and Alistair will be spending time speaking with children across all year groups to gather ideas on making our communal dining time even more positive and inviting. Whether it’s the atmosphere, the seating, or the general "buzz" of the hall, our ambassadors are ready to listen and make sure the student voice is at the heart of our wellbeing improvements.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and the sun continues to shine.
Warm wishes
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack.
Including school trips and events.
Thank you
As we enter the Summer Term, we would like to remind families about the option to apply for Free School Meals.
If you believe your child may be eligible, please collect a Free School Meals application form from the School Office and return it to us as soon as possible.
You can apply for Free School Meals if your child attends our school from Tiny Steps all the way through to Year 6.
If you would like support completing the form, please do not hesitate to contact the School Office.
New Clothes Recycling Bin – Support Our School!
We’re excited to share that a new clothes recycling bin has been installed on the school grounds! This is a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together, reduce waste, and support the school at the same time.
We encourage families to donate any unwanted clothing and shoes. Every item collected helps to raise valuable funds that go directly back into supporting school activities, resources, and opportunities for our children.
By using the recycling bin, you’re not only helping the environment by giving items a second life, but also contributing to the continued growth and success of our school.
Thank you for your ongoing support — every bag makes a difference!
What's Cooking?
This week I have been working with Team Humber and Team Ouse. Team Humber have continued to make strawberry smoothies where they had to calculate the ingredients they would need by using a recipe that they had to change the ratio of to suit their needs. This involved a lot of work using fractions and calculating the percentage decrease/increase. Well done to all the children in Team Humber. They have all worked really hard in Cook School and showed such determination and resilience.
Team Ouse have continued to make healthy sandwiches. We have particularly focussed on what makes a healthy sandwich and the children have been introduced to what food group each food item belongs to (protein, dairy, carbohydrate, fruit/vegetable, spreads/oils). We have also looked at whether our food comes from a plant or an animal and had a discussion about where bread comes from.
The children have had the opportunity to use new skills including spreading and cutting. They then had the opportunity to eat their sandwich whilst listening to the story of The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Well done to all of the children this week, they have all worked so hard and their sandwiches looked delicious!
Next week I will continue to work with Team Ouse to complete the making of the healthy sandwiches.
