Good afternoon,
It has been a busy and productive week in KS1, with lots of wonderful learning taking place. The children have now completed their writing based on Farmer Duck, and next week they will begin adapting parts of the story to create their own versions.
We are incredibly proud of the children, who are becoming increasingly confident in using the resources and classroom environment to support their learning each day. They are showing great independence when selecting tools to help them, such as word mats, phonics charts and working walls, and are beginning to take more ownership of their work. It has been lovely to see their confidence grow, as well as their willingness to challenge themselves and persevere when they find something tricky.
Reminders next week -
In Maths, Year 1 are beginning a new topic of unitising and coin recognition.
In Year 2 we will exploring division and multiplication and how we can use one to help the other.
In Writing, we are going to b editing and publishing our own version of 'Farmer Duck'
Changing books:
To support with reading in school we are changing the day we are sending new books home. Please can book bags and reading records be sent to school on THURSDAYS.
REMINDERS:
This half term, our PE days will be Monday and Friday.
HOMEWORK:
Your children will bring home their reading books on Thursday. We ask that you read with your child 3x a week and write in their reading records each time you read.
The children who have read 3x, will be giving a raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a prize.
We know reading is essential for your child/ren and we thank your support with this.
Every Friday, Year 1 will now be bringing home a phonics home learning sheet looking at sounds that we have covered throughout the week. Any extra practise would really support your children's reading journey.
Below is a list of KS1 common exceptions words. These are a list of words that the children need to be able to read and write - although this isn't homework as such, it may be useful to practice these at home. Across Key Stage 1 we are working really hard to improve spelling and handwriting so any support with this at home would be greatly appreciated.
Any questions, please come and ask us.
Thank you for your continued support,
Team KS1
