WEEKLY UPDATE
Dear Parents and Carers,
What an amazing half term full of learning, laughter and fun! We can't thank you enough for all your continued support with everything that we plan at school and how you help by supporting our aim for everyone to be the best they can be at school.
Team Nidd and Team Swale are still enthralled with the Supertato stories by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnett. Mrs Winter set us a mission to help create a Jelly trap to capture the Pea which led to a lot of fun exploring jelly and how it changes. We then received a mystery present which turned out to be the next story in the Supertato adventures. - Eviltato V Superpea. This led to a flurry of writing as the children were introduced to a new character called Mean Bean who also likes to get up to mischief!
Thank you so much for your feedback about our home learning challenges. We've taken this onboard and are sending out another pack for you to complete over the half term break. When we practice our handwriting at school, we are encouraging the children to 'self-talk' the phrase for the letter they are forming. Self-talk is a way we help our brain to get smarter and helps us to remember the direction our pencil moves.
In the pack, you will find a writing activity which is about what you can see at the park. On the lines we would like the children to write the following sentences:
I can see a log.
I can see a bin.
I can see a duck.
I can see a pond.
The dog is fast.
I can see a picnic basket.
We call these sentences at school - dictated sentences. The sentences are made up of all the sounds the children know (from phonics) and how they can apply them independently when writing. At school we practise saying the sentence over and over until we can remember it. Then the children will write the sentence remembering finger spaces (gaps) between each word. The last sentence involves the children chunking to spell (splitting into syllables), e.g. pic/nic, bask/et.
This week we have completed our recent assessments on reading and we will share with you an up date on your child's progress.
Lastly, we have had to tweak the date of our family sharing assembly in July. The new date will be Monday 7th July 2025.
Have a lovely half term break!
