STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 13th February 2026
Dear Families
We have had a very busy half term and although it's been one of the shorter half terms we have certainly packed a lot of learning into our weeks! This week the children have finished with a great Valentines disco to enjoy! Thank you, as always, to all of our parents, carers and extended family members, for your continued support in all aspects of school life. We know that the home school partnership is crucial to children succeeding in the best way that they can and so we really do value to opportunity to work with you.
Building on from this, reading is a huge part of learning at Staynor Hall and is key to support children's learning in the wider curriculum. Our expectation is that children read at home three times per week and every Friday children bring in their reading record, which has been signed by a parent or carer to show that three reads have taken place. We would like to encourage that this happens for all children. From next half term we will send a gentle reminder home each week if we can see that your child has not read, we appreciate that family life is incredibly busy and sometimes it just one of those things which gets forgotten but we would value your support with this please to ensure children are reading regularly at home and in school.
Have a lovely half term, we look forward to seeing all of our children back in school on Monday 23rd February.
Kind regards
Mrs Winter

Apple AirTag and tracking children on school trips
It has been brought to our attention both locally and nationally that parents/carers are using devices such as the Apple AirTag to track children on school residentials/trips/visits/outings. Other devices can also include electronic watches that are essentially tracking devices with the capability of sending video footage from the device back to the person tracking i.e. parent. Such devices have the potential to post locations of children’s whereabouts on social media. We are therefore advising schools to include this in the consent slip which parents sign prior to taking part in a trip that such devices will not be allowed under any circumstances and must not be hidden in pockets/bags etc. If any tracking devices are found on pupils they will not be allowed on the trip and will be returned to school.
Apple have released the statement below which can be found on their website:
“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products”
We are an allergy aware school.
Nuts are prohibited on school site, and should not be put in children's packed lunches or brought in as a playtime snack
Thank you
What's Cooking?
This week I finished working with Team Dove and started working with Team Derwent. We have been making Libum Roman Bread which is a sweet bread made from ricotta cheese. It is baked and sweetened with honey and would have been eaten by the Romans as a breakfast food or snack.
The children have had the opportunity to use a variety of skills (weighing, measuring, mixing, beating, kneading, sifting) and have learnt all about the ingredients used. We particularly focussed on ricotta cheese and the children enjoyed watching a video on how it is produced.
Well done to all of you this week, your sweet breads looked and tasted delicious! I look forward to continuing to work with Team Derwent when we return after our half term break.
