We hope you had a lovely Christmas break. It has been lovely welcoming the children back ready for Spring Term and the cold weather has not stopped us from starting our term full of exciting learning! The children did fantastic on our local walk on Tuesday tallying up litter at three key locations close to school.
Our new topic is 'Is Humpty Dumpty real?'. We will be looking into the history of Humpty Dumpty and how Humpty Dumpty links to the close by Cawood Castle.
In English we are looking at Traditional Tales. The children have read a mixture of fairy tales this week and identified key features of fairy tale writing. Next week the children will be focussing on The Three Billy Goats Gruff where we will be doing a drama session and having a go at writing part of the story using all the features we have learnt so far.
Year 1 maths
Next week the children will further embed their understanding of the numbers 6-10 and their relationship. They will then explore additive structures.
Year 2 maths:
Next week we are looking at ten more and ten less then adding and taking away multiples of ten from a 2 digit number. e.g. 27 + 30 = 57 65-40 =25
Homework:
3 x reading- we ask your child to read three times a week at home and recdord this in your reading record.
We also encourage your child to 'read for pleasure' at home. This can come in the form of story books, chapter books, information texts, magazines, ebooks. Please add any additional reading to your child's reading record as we love seeing the variety of texts your child is accessing out of school.
