STAYNOR HALL ACADEMY NEWSLETTER
Friday 4th October 2024
Dear Families,
Next Tuesday 8th October we have our annual general meeting for FOSHA. FOSHA stands for 'Friends of Staynor Hall'. We have a core of committed parents and staff who have supported us with this for many years and we are truly grateful for all of the work they have done over the years to raise money for school which is then invested directly into all children who attend Staynor Hall. If you have any time, no matter how limited that might be to join our small team we would be very grateful, without this team of people we simply could not do some of the work and raise the money that we have done in the past. The meeting is at 3:30pm in school and young children are welcome (we will have toys out to play with).
Please can I also draw your attention to the dates below and highlight parent consultation meetings which are taking place on the 14th and 17th October. We know how much you value these meetings with teachers and we encourage all parents to attend. If you are unable to and would like to organise an alternative time or phone call, please contact the school office.
Have a lovely weekend,
Mrs Winter
If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child in school please contact myself,
Mr Metcalfe or Mrs Danbury who are the safeguarding leads.
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you all for your ongoing commitment for your child's attendance. I am excited to share that Staynor Hall Primary Academy is currently exceeding our whole school attendance target of 97%! This achievement wouldn't have been possible without your continued support in ensuring your child’s regular attendance.
We continue to support and encourage attendance in school through;
A weekly reward for every Team that is over 97% aka Classopoly!
A weekly attendance Assembly
An attendance league table with class rewards for those Teams with the highest attendance at the end of each half term
Monthly prize draws for those children who have had 100% attendance for the previous month (Selby Superbowl have kindly donated vouchers as a reward).
Thank you again for your commitment to their education and for partnering with us to create a positive learning environment. Every day counts, and together, we are making a significant difference in your child’s academic journey.
Warm Regards
Mr Metcalfe

VAPING/E-CIGARETTES
Unfortunately the number of children trying out vaping has risen considerably over the past few years. There are several negative short term side effects to vaping and worryingly the long term risks are unknown. We want to ensure that all our children are safe and healthy. Understandably this can be a difficult subject to broach with your child/children. Please find some advice from Action for Children as to how to discuss this with your child;
Find a good time to start the conversation. It might be as you walk past a vape shop or see someone using an e-cigarette.
Ask your child what they know about vaping. You can ask them if they know of people who use them and why they use them. You might ask them if they’ve ever tried it.
Listen to your child, their experience, and their point of view. Show you are interested in what they have to say.
Then you can gently and calmly give them some facts about vaping. Ask them what they think about the facts.
If your child is already using a vape, then have the same conversation with them and ask them what they like about it. You are not saying it’s okay for them to do it, by being interested. You can still be clear about how you feel.
If they feel pressured into vaping by friends, you can teach them helpful skills of being confident in saying ‘no thanks, it’s not for me’.
For more information about the risks of using e-cigarettes or vapes please visit; https://parents.actionforchildren.org.uk/behaviour/challenging-behaviour/im-worried-about-my-child-vaping
What's Cooking?
I have been working with Team Aire this week and we have been making Yo Yo Biscuits in celebration of what they have been learning in the classroom Toys - Old & New). They have been learning how to use a digital scales, used a rolling pin and cutters and showed excellent spreading skills when it came to icing the biscuits. They also learnt about where flour comes from and the process it goes through to get to the shops.
Well done Team Aire, your biscuits looked delicious. I do hope you enjoy sharing them!
