Good afternoon,
Team Calder have had a brilliant second week back in school and it’s been great to get back into a routine. In History, Years 5 and 6 had an exciting morning studying artefacts from WW2 to launch our new topic. They made predictions about what the objects were and debated whether they were primary or secondary historical sources. The children have been looking at war poetry in English and making predictions around what they have read. In Science, we have started our new topic on ‘forces’ by investigating gravity.
Next week:
Curriculum: the children will be exploring what life was like after World War 1
English: the children will be writing a poem based on an air raid warden’s day
Maths: the children will be using decimals multiplicatively
PSHE: the children will be looking at identifying both positive things and worries, and knowing what to do with them
PE is taught on Thursdays and Fridays
Children need to come dressed in PE kit for the whole day. Children need to wear a pair of plain black or navy blue jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and a plain black or navy blue hoodie. Children need to wear suitable shoes for PE (trainers or plimsolls).
Homework has been set today and is due in next Friday.
Reading: The children will be expected to read a minimum of 3 times a week, ideally to a grown-up. This needs to be recorded in their reading records.
Spelling: The children will be expected to play a minimum of 5 games of the set spelling rule on EdShed.
Maths: The children will have a task set on My Maths.
Children are expected to access TT Rockstars a minimum of 3 times a week.
If children cannot access the internet at home, sheets can be requested for homework.
