Good afternoon,
It has been a really lovely (albeit short) week with the children in LKS2 and we have absolutely loved getting to know our new teams and spending time with the children. The children have done a brilliant job beginning to settle back into the school routine and continue to impress and amaze us with their fantastic attitudes towards learning! This week the children have written a setting description about a beautiful sunset over an impressive landscape with rocky mountains, a meandering river and dense forests. It has been wonderful to see the children’s writing and we are excited to watch how the children continue to grow as writers over the year. We launched our new History topic: ‘What was Prehistoric Britain like?’ by firstly looking at the question ‘When was Prehistoric Britain?’ to allow the children to understand where this period falls in history and understand the term Prehistory/ Prehistoric. We can’t wait to learn more!
Next week:
Curriculum: We will be learning about how Prehistoric homes changed from the Stone Age to the Bronze Age and into the Iron Age.
English: Next week we will be writing a setting description using effective descriptive language (adjectives and expanded noun phrases).
Maths: We will be continuing with our first unit of the year looking at addition and subtraction across 10 and we will be focusing on how to add and subtract efficiently with 3 addends.
PSHE:
Y3- To know why rules are needed and how they relate to rights and responsibilities.
Y4- To know my rights and responsibilities within the Staynor Hall Community.
PE:

Derwent: Wednesday and Friday

Children need to come dressed in PE kit for the whole day. Children need to wear a pair of plain black or navy blue jogging bottoms or shorts, a plain white t-shirt and a plain black or navy blue hoodie. Children need to wear suitable shoes for PE (trainers or plimsolls).
Homework will be set on a Friday and is due the following Friday. Homework will be set from Friday 13th September and we will send their logins home with them before that date.
Each week, children are expected to read aloud at least 3 times a week, ideally to an adult; access Times Table Rockstars at least 3 times a week; practise spellings on Spelling Shed by completing at least 5 games per week; and complete their set My Maths task.
If required, children can request a paper copy of their homework. We will let you know in our weekly update when the first set of homework has been set and when it is due.
Don’t forget to keep checking Twitter to see what learning we have been up to!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued support,
LKS2 Team
