You will be responsible for the folder and all music passed out to you. It is either to be taken home or returned to its designated place at the end of each rehearsal. Music is NOT to be kept in your instrument case or on your music stand when class is finished. You are encouraged to mark your music IN PENCIL ONLY, never in pen or marker. All markings should be erasable.
Music must be returned in the condition it was issued. Any music you lose, keep, misplace, damage, etc, will be charged at its full replacement cost. In case of non-payment, grades will be withheld pending payment to the high school office.
Most band students will need to provide their own instrument. Some instruments are available to be provided by the EHHS Music Department. Available instruments include: Piccolo, Oboe, Bassoon, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Trombone, Bass Trombone, Baritone/Euphonium, Tuba, Sousaphone, and Percussion. Students are responsible for their own supplies, such as reeds, valve oil, cork grease, etc.
School-owned instruments will be issued in good/excellent working condition. Students and parents/guardians must read and sign the EHHS Musical Instrument Contract. This form must be completed and given to Mr. Groves by the designated due date. Students are responsible for these school-owned instruments and any damage caused to the instrument by lack of proper care will be their responsibility. Instrument damage will be assessed when the instrument is turned in at the end of the school year. Students wishing to use school instruments over summer break should contact their director for approval.
In the event that a replacement is needed, certain materials can be purchased from the band office. All equipment purchases should take place outside of rehearsal. Money for these purchases will be collected by the director or band treasurer and goes towards defraying the cost of maintaining a supply of these sorts of consumable items.
Items include:
Reeds: $3.00 (clarinet, alto saxophone). $5.00 (bass clarinet, tenor/baritone saxophone)
Valve Oil: $4.00
Cork Grease: $2.00
If a student's instrument is in need of repair, the student may feel free to bring it to the director outside of class time. If it is a simple repair, it may be completed on-site. If the instrument requires more extensive work, a representative of Music & Arts visits EHHS every Monday morning to pick up instruments that require being brought to their shop. Students and their families are responsible for the costs associated with these repairs. Students may also arrange to have their instrument repaired by a different repair technician, if they wish.
