When a school district decides to adopt a 1:1 technology model, many questions are asked, and they should be. Some of the questions could be summed up in these three words: "Why?", "How?", and "What?". Start with "Why?" One of our goals in education is to provide the absolute best learning experience and environment possible for all our learners. Various types of research and "active-research" has helped to answer some of these questions. One way to achieve this goal as educators is to enhance the learning and teaching environment by using technology and combine it with great pedagogy and strong content knowledge. As we are guided by this research we must continue to grow, learn (teacher as a life-long learner), and work together to improve education. Teachers should strive to infuse purposeful technology into their learning environments and curriculum. To do this well, we must consider how we educate our students by utilizing the technology we have today, the kind that was not available to us in the past, and leverage it to build learning tasks not easily achievable or possible before.
Eanes ISD proudly serves as a 1:1 mobile device district, Grades K-12. IPads have transformed our classrooms into interactive, exciting and engaging places and not only improved learning for the at-risk students, but also challenge the gifted students to a higher level of thinking. Not only are students more engaged when they are collaborating on the tablet computers, but they have a vast amount of apps that can be personalized to instruction. It is also provides an opportunity to teach students how to use technology responsibly and teach them Internet etiquette.
