August ARTWORK

Intro students will be discussing why it is important to study art, the different between creativity and art, functions of art and becoming familiar with art vocabulary. Students will start using their sketchbooks, receive bathroom passes, participation calendars and essential procedures that will ensure success in our fabulous class.

Drawings Students will review the Elements and Principles vocabulary learned in Intro to Art. Students will create preliminary drawings to use as baseline data. Portraits, architecture, still life and anatomy drawings will be completed. Students will start using their sketchbooks, receive bathroom passes, participation calendars and essential procedures that will ensure success in our fabulous class.

AP students will become familiar with the college boards curriculum, time lines, website and general expectations of what it takes to be a successful AP art student. Students will immediately begin working on their 24 piece portfolio. Families will also become familiar with the essential dates, website and time requirements their students must follow for this course.

September ARTWORK

Intro students are working with value and form this month. We are learning how to create the illusion of a third dimension on a flat sheet of paper while studying the effects of light and shadow. There is a strong focus on technique and skill.

Drawing 1-2 students are finishing up contour studied and working with value. Drawing foreshortened hands and still life.

Drawing 3-4 students completed their texture, value study drawings, are working with value and creating realistic drawings from observation.

Painting students are completing a landscape artwork that demonstrated an understanding of color mixing, space and texture. Students are also researching a famous painter, creating a presentation and art work that shoes knowledge of chosen artist.

AP students will complete three breadth assignments


October ARTWORK

Intro to art: Students have finished learned the basics of line, value, texture and form and are now implementing these awesome skills into a couple of awesome drawings. The first is a texture animal and the second is a landscape drawing.

Drawing 1-2 students will be working with composition design, negative space, printmaking and subtractive drawings.

Drawing 3-4 students are building on the previous drawing courses and diving into more complex artworks demonstrating their skills in line and value.

Painting students are starting the acrylic painting unit. We will be doing 4 guided paintings to learn a variety of skills and techniques.

AP are still working on their Breadth portfolios and should be half way done before Fall break begins.


November

Intro to Art students are working with the 7th and final element of art, Color.

Drawing 1-2 students are working with linear perspective

Drawing 3-4 students are working on Phobia and Skull drawings

Painting students are working on a month long art history project.


JANUARY ARTWORK

INTRO TO ART STUDENTS will COMPLETE A REVIEW PROJECT THAT SUMMARIZED SOME KEY DESIGN ELEMENTS FROM FIRST SEMESTER. WE Will BE IN THE COMPUTER LAB PREPARING FOR ART HISTORY PRESENTATION AND HAVE STARTED OUR JOURNEY THROUGHOUT THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF ART HISTORY.


PAINTING STUDENTS ARE EXPLORING POP ART AND USING THIS ART MOVEMENT AS INSPIRATION FOR THEIR OWN PERSONALIZED ARTWORKS.

DRAWING STUDENTS ARE WORKING WITH PRISMA COLOR AND CREATING ILLUSIONS. TROMPE.

ADVANCED DRAWING STUDENTS ARE WORKING ON COMPOSITION DESIGN, CREATIVITY AND CRAFTSMANSHIP WHILE WORKING TOWARDS BUILDING THEIR PORTFOLIOS. COOL


FEBRUARY ARTWORK

INTRO TO ART STUDENTS WILL BEGIN ONCE A WEEK ART HISTORY PRESENTATIONS. WE ARE GOING IN CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER AND LEARNING SOME GREAT FACTS ABOUT AMAZING ARTISTS.

WE ARE MOVING OUT OF ROMAN ART AND INTO EGYPT. WE WILL SPEND SOME TIME IN THE COMPUTER LAB RESEARCHING GREAT INFORMATION ABOUT ANCIENT EGYPT AND INCORPORATE THIS INFORMATION INTO PERSONALIZED WORKS OF ART


PAINTING STUDENTS ARE MOVING FROM POP ART INTO GEORGIA OKEEFE INSPIRED SKULLS AND FLOWERS. WORKING WITH GREY SCALES AND MIXED MEDIA WILL BE OUR FOCUS FOR FEBRUARY.

DRAWING STUDENTS ARE SPENDING THIS MONTH WORKING WITH PHOTO ENLARGEMENT, GRID AND VALUE, TEXTURE AND CONTRAST..

ADVANCED STUDENTS ARE GETTING FANCY WITH FORESHORTENED PHOTOS OF THEMSELVES OR PEERS. THEY ARE EXPLORING THE AWKWARD AND WONDERFUL NON TRADITIONAL VIEW POINTS IN PORTRAIT DRAWING

AP STUDENTS ARE ASSEMBLING THEIR PORTFOLIOS, PHOTOGRAPHING, MEASURING, MATTING, PREPARING AND PRODUCING. NON STOP. SO PROUD OF THESE STUDENTS.


March

Intro to Art students will be working with linear perspective. We will be working with one and two point perspective as well as atmospheric perspective.

Painting students will be spending the month making connections between music and art. We will look at the work of Monet, Debussey, Kandinsky, Pollock and Disney animators.

Drawing students are exploring portraiture. We will be working with gestural lines, contour, facial features and self portraits

AP students are working on their concentration.


April

Intro to Art students will be working with surrealism. Students will create landscapes with a surreal twist. Emphasis on composition, creativity and use of color.

Painting students will be working on various artworks preparing for the upcoming art show.

Drawing students are finishing up metamorphosis drawings and beginning to work extensively with prismacolors.

AP students are finishing their concentration portfolios. All work is due at the end of April


May

All students will be working together to prepare the spring art show. We will be organizing, measuring, cutting, matting and displaying hundreds of artworks in the PAC lobby for community viewing. After the art show, students will strike and take home their art. We will then begin working on final exam art assignments.
