AP art and design

Welcome to AP Art and Design...This is where amazing things will happen every day.

Celebrate!

We are about to venture on an incredible artistic journey together where we will discover and grow together as artists.

I highly recommend that you start getting familiar with the AP college boards audit website. There is a lot to look at and even more to learn as we begin the process of this intensely amazing course.

Below is our 10 page AP college boards audit approved syllabus. It is 10 pages and full of information. It is important to note that as we ride this awesome wave together, there are important dates that are not flexible. Remember we are on a college schedule. Pace yourself, but keep an eye on the prize - a portfolio showing college level talents, process and product..

We got this!!!!!!!

Technique and skill

The student’s will work on art that shows evidence of conceptual, perceptual, expressive, and technical range; thus, the student’s work should demonstrate a variety of drawing skills and approaches.

Examples:

• The use of various spatial systems, such as linear perspective, the illusion of three dimensional forms, aerial views, and other ways of creating and organizing space

• The use of various subjects, such as the human figure, landscape, and still-life objects

• The use of various kinds of content, such as that derived from observation,

an expressionistic viewpoint, imaginary or psychological imagery, social commentary, political statements; and other personal interests

• Arrangement of forms in a complex visual space

• The use of different approaches to represent form and space, such as rendered, gestural, painterly, expressionist, stylized, or abstract form

• The investigation of expressive mark-making

What is a Sustained INvestigation?

1. A sustained investigation is a group of related works describing an in-depth exploration of a particular artistic concern that shows synthesis within the body of work.

2. It should reflect a process of investigation of a specific visual idea. To me, this means that there must be a visual thread that connects all the pieces in your concentration, not just a concept. I use the term “visual theme”such as PORTRAIT, LANDSCAPE, STILL LIFE, etc. The direction you go in is as broad as your imagination, but the pieces MUST have a common visual theme.

3. It is NOT a selection of a variety of works produced as solutions to class projects or a collection of works with differing intents

4. For this section, 15 digital images must be submitted, some of which may be details.

I have added a LOOOONG list of possible concentration ideas on a separate page. The list is intended only to provide a sense of range and should not necessarily be considered “better” ideas. And as always, the “easiest” idea is the one you feel the most excited about, the one that moves you, the one with which you have a connection. There’s nothing worse than getting to the 6th concentration and completely running out of ideas and enthusiasm for the topic you chose.

Because this section is concerned with a process of process and discovery, the work presented may

span a range of levels of achievement. If this is the case, the higher level that is reached should be

acknowledged in the score that is given.Key Scoring Descriptors

A. Integration of the Topic of the Concentration and the Work Presented

B. Decision Making and Discovery through Investigation

C. Originality and Innovative Thinking

D. Evocative Theme that Engages the Viewer

I. Image Quality (for Weak and Poor Concentrations only)

J. Overall Accomplishment and Quality
