Meet the Teacher Night

2022-23

Valley Vista High School

Ms. Erika Adelman

Parents and Families:

Welcome to Valley Vista High School’s “Meet the Teacher Night.” Thank you for attending this evening. My goal is to tell you all a little about myself, describe a typical day in art class, and outline the curriculum your student will study this year.

A little bit about Ms. Adelman. I have a Bachelors in Fine Arts from ASU and a Masters in Education Leadership from NAU. This will be my 9th year as a Monsoon and have been teaching art for over 25 years. When I am not at Valley, I am busy being a mom, running a small paint business or finding a fun adventure.

My current teaching schedule:

P. 1 AP Art and Art 5-6

P. 2. Painting 1-2, 3-4

P 3 Art 1-2

P 4 Prep

P 5 Art 3-4

P6 Art 3-4

An “average” week in the art studio:

  • Attendance

  • Review of objectives and goals for each day

  • Short lessons on technique, skill, art history or art appreciation. Usually done with a google slideshow, video or discussion.

  • Student practice on skill or technique we are focusing on.

  • Independent work

  • Informal and formal assessments

  • One on one work with teacher/ student

  • Every unit of study will include art history, production, and individual reflection.

Course Curriculum

  • Divided into Four major areas

    1. Studio Production

    2. Art History

    3. Art Appreciation

    4. Art Criticism
