About the Teachers

Ms. Wisbey

I am entering my 19th year of teaching (9th year at DHS). This year I am teaching  Sophomore, Junior and Senior AVID as well as continuing in my role as  the site coordinator of the AVID Program. Prior to DHS, I taught middle school social studies/history at Riverview School and Surprise Elementary.

I graduated from Northern Arizona University in 2005 with a degree in History/Social Studies for Secondary Education.

I have two wonderful children, Ellie- 13 and Eric-6.  I also consider my students my kids!

I have an open door policy so if there is anything I can ever do to help you in any way, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Welcome to the AVID Family! I look forward to meeting and working with you this year!

Ms. Parra

I am beginning my second year of teaching this year at Dysart High School. This year I am teaching two sections of Freshmen AVID, and three sections of Freshmen Experience.

I graduated from Arizona State University in December 2021 with a degree in Secondary Education History.

I have three dogs Sophia Maria Parra, Frida Maria Parra, and Lyla Maria Parra.

I believe strongly in the learning process. For students to learn, they must experience manageable struggles. Instead of trying to ensure that your student never struggles, I will give them the tools to learn to cope with these challenges in a classroom where they feel supported. This being said my door is always open to each and every one of my students in their learning process.

Welcome to the AVID family! I look forward to meeting and working with you this year!

Mrs. Whetstone

I am entering into my thirteenth year in education. (Wow! Time flies!) This will be my second year back at DHS, and as a High School Counselor. My first eleven years in education were spent teaching elementary students in Pennsylvania. This year I will continue working with the AVID students, as well as all 10 th and 12 th grade students with last names ranging from L-Z.

I graduated with honors from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2010 with a degree in Elementary Education (K-6). While beginning my career in education, I went on to earn a Master’s Degree with dual certifications in Elementary and Secondary School Counseling from Bloomsburg University. Once receiving Master’s Degree, I earned sixty additional credits in the field of education.

I love to be active. I competed in Division II Swimming for my University. After college, I fell in love with distance running, and have since completed four half marathons. I enjoy cycling and hiking with my husband in my spare time. I am currently a dog mom to my adorable Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Jack.

As your school counselor, I am always open to meeting with anyone over concerns or questions. Pop in and say hello even if you don’t need anything. I enjoy getting to know each of you. Welcome to AVID!

College Tutors

Vicente Izaguirre

I'm a proud Dysart Demon for life!  I graduated in 2017 and spent 5 years in AVID. I am going into my Senior year at ASU going for my Bachelor's in Secondary Education.

I became an AVID tutor because I love the program and it gives me an opportunity to really become involved with students and prepare for my future. I am actually a 3rd generation Dysart Alumni and I have two more siblings graduating sooner than later.

If I had any advice for you students it would be to enjoy the little things and take the time to do homework or study everyday, you'll be grateful when the end of semester comes around.
