Theater is everywhere - you can see it most anywhere you will be this summer. Definitely see at least two professional shows, even if only through streaming, but, also, you can see local community shows, street theater, etc. Enjoy yourself!

  • Anything Goes Through June 30 PBS.org Sutton Foster stars as Reno Sweeney in P.G. Wodehouse and Cole Porter’s golden age musical. Filmed in 2021 at the Barbican Theatre in London.

  • Hamlet Through June 30 PBS.org Ato Blankson-Wood stars in the title role of the Shakespeare play, directed by Kenny Leon. Filmed in 2023 at the Delacorte Theater in New York.

  • Much Ado About Nothing Through June 30 PBS.org Danielle Brooks, Grantham Coleman, Chuck Cooper star in the Shakespeare comedy, directed by Kenny Leon. Filmed in 2019 at the Delacorte Theater in New York.

  • Purlie Victorious: A Non-Confederate Romp Through the Cotton Patch Through July 19 PBS.org Leslie Odom, Jr. plays the title role in Ossie Davis' play about a traveling preacher who returns to his Georgia hometown to save the local church and the cotton pickers working on Ol' Cap'n Cotchiepee's plantation. Filmed in January 2024 at Broadway's Music Box Theatre. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY MS. GUZOWSKI - The lead actress just won the Tony award & the play was a nominee for best play revival

  • Ann PBS.org Holland Taylor wrote and stars in this play about Texas governor Ann Richards. Filmed in 2016 at the Zach Theater in Austin, Texas. Ms. G. Note - Ann Richards was a fascinating  governor of Texas who was a Democrat - very interesting to consider with how Texas is today.

  • Border Tales The Shows Must Go On YouTube Channel A commentary on multicultural Britain seen through the eyes of an international cast, told through dance, live music, and dialogue compiled from the performers’ personal experiences. Filmed in 2017 at The Place in London. Ms. G. Note - I have not watched this, yet, but other students have liked this production very much.

  • Hamlet AllArts.org Maxine Peake stars in the title role of the Shakespeare play, directed by Sarah Frankcom. Filmed in 2014 at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester, England.

  • A Midsummer Night's Dream AllArts.org Julie Taymor directs a cast including David Harewood, Kathryn Hunter, Tina Benko, and Max Casella in the Shakespeare comedy. Filmed in 2014 at Theatre for a New Audience in Brooklyn. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BY MS. GUZOWSKI - especially for its design and directing. Julie Taymor directed this & she is a very interesting designer & director & a theater theorist.
