What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?
I work in a DAW [Digital Audio Workstation] called FL Studio. I have been using this software for over 5 years, so I have gotten very comfortable with it in terms of work-flow.
How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?
I have been writing and composing music for 5+ years after I initially got very inspired by a close friend of mine who I believed was very talented. FL Studio has really become my "instrument" -- I use samples and input/program original melodies and rhythms with this DAW. It works for me instead of any single traditional instrument. My father is a guitarist in a band and has always tried to force me to have a guitar in my lap, but it never really stuck with me.
What was the last song you heard that you wished you'd written?
The last song I wished I had written was "8AM In Charlotte" by Drake which is composed by one of my favorite producers ever, Conductor Williams. It features a soulful sample with Boom-Bap drums, which is what I love to make.
Who are three artists you recommend for everyone to listen to?
I would recommend everybody to listen to artists like Dave, JID, and J. Cole.

What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?
I start my song writing process by strumming potential chords on my guitar. After I have a chord progression that I like, I create a suitable strumming pattern. Then, I arrange these parts in the structure of a typical pop song. I find this to be a relaxing and insightful process that allows me to explore compositional choices. Through this process, I allow ideas to flow that together combine to create a song. At some points, song writing can be smooth however other parts can be
slow. Lyrics are the hardest part of the song for me. It’s the part of songwriting that I have the least experience in. I can write a song in just a few days but the lyrics might take weeks or months. I recorded the song both at home and in the Dwight Recording Studio. I sang and played electric guitar while Mr. Rychlik recorded a drum track.
How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?
I’ve been a musical person for my whole life. From attending music school to performing with the Dwight School Rock Band, music has an impactful role in my life. My grandmother attended Julliard to study piano and I first learned to play under her guidance. After two years of lessons, I picked up guitar, now my primary instrument. I am currently studying classical guitar and voice at Manhattan School of Music however I also branch out to perform with the Dwight Rock Band and sing a wide repertoire of genres. I enjoy writing and recording my own original songs.
What was the last song you heard that you wished you'd written?
I wish I’d written ‘I Lose Control’, by Teddy Swims. Asides from receiving critical acclaim, Swims uses a variety of instruments to create an excellent song.
Who are three artists you recommend for everyone to listen to?
Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and Maroon 5

The 566 Featured Interview: Mikey Kessler, '25
What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?
I used Garageband to create the layers for this piece and did a lot of editing on the timing to make the song flow and smoothly as possible. I mainly used the digital MIDI keyboard to make most of the song and also used a drum kit for inspiration for the underlying beats. I used the library sound called "small piano" for most of the melody layers, and then multiple other sounds that supported the "small piano" sound.
How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?
I have played guitar for years, but only really started creating my own digital music shortly before I made this song.
What was the last song you heard that you wished you'd written?
The last song I heard was Levels by Avicci which is an amazing EDM song.
Who are three artists you recommend for everyone to listen to?
I recommend Coldplay, Led Zeppelin and Diplo.
The 566 Featured Interview: Andrey Zubov, '27
What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?
I created it in a program called FL Studio. It was a long process where I found a sampled loop. Then I chose a new genre I wanted remix the make a song in. Then, I chopped the loop and created a melody along with the loop in FL Studio. I finished the whole process by writing and adding new drums, making an arrangement different from the original song, and mixing all of the tracks.
How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?
I've been writing music for 3 years, but I've never played traditional instruments. I downloaded FL Studio for writing beats and
watched YouTube tutorials on it. That's how I learned it. Now I use it in class and on my own, and I also learn new instruments and elements of music.
