The 566 Featured Interview: Thijs Hofstede '22

What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?

I created this piece using FL Studio which is a digital audio workstation. When I first started making the piece, I hoped to emulate a traditional summer song beat which was my inspiration for the main melody. The process also consisted of getting the proper beat to go along with the melodies I created and the genre I wanted to explore.

How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?

I have been using digital software to make music for roughly three years now. I started using programs like Garageband and then once I mastered it, I purchased Logic Pro X and FL Studio, which is currently where I spend most of my time. Apart from digital music, I also have played the piano for a year and a half. I'm still learning and working on all of these aspects of my musical process.

What was the last song you heard that you wished you'd written?

In The Weeknd’s most recent album, After Hours, I really liked the song "Blinding Lights."

Who are three artists you recommend for everyone to listen to?

I took my inspiration on the drums from "Hold On, We’re Going Home" by Drake, so I would recommend him firstly. Next, I would recommend Calvin Harris for a more upbeat summer song. And finally, The Weeknd, for his great vocals and melodies in all of his songs.
