What was the behind-the-scenes process for this featured music? How did you create it?
My songwriting process always starts with the lyrics because they’re the deepest part of the song. Lyrics are what people sing when a song is stuck in their head and what they relate to the most. They tell the story of what I wish to communicate and share my feelings. I hope music lovers will experience and enjoy how impactful lyrics can be in my song “Together.” A couple days after I write my lyrics, I sit at the piano and work on chords. I try to hum a melody for the lyrics after I find the chords I like. This is the time when I edit the lyrics yet again. But recording my music is always what
takes the longest. It takes me numerous tries to be able to record the piano after (still) getting the recording jitters. The entire recording process takes hours as I get completely engulfed in my passion that I almost forget the melody while composing. Editing the audio is always the most satisfying part of the recording process because I am able to hear how the instruments and vocals sound together (no pun intended). This step is difficult because, being a perfectionist, I am critiquing my own music in order to make it sound the best it could be. Mostly, this process includes balancing the audio of the instruments and the vocals.
How long have you been writing music and what instruments do you play?
I consider myself a creative person and love music. I’m a writer as well, and wanted to express myself through music. I started writing song about 4 years ago. I have been playing the piano for about six years. As my love for music has grown, I recently picked up the guitar.
What was the last song you heard that you wished you'd written?
I wish I’d written “Half a Man” by Dean Lewis, not just because I’ve been listening to his music a lot recently, but because I think it’s about acceptance. The chorus of the song reminds me that it’s acceptable to be alone and gather my thoughts. Listening to this song allows me to reflect on my true identity—being creative, passionate, caring, and thoughtful.
Who are three (or four!) artists you recommend for everyone to listen to?
Dean Lewis because his music is inspiring; Ed Sheeran because he is well known and a creative musician; and Jamie Miller because his songs are upbeat and catchy.
