Over the next two weeks, we will continue with our scheduled NGRT (New Group Reading Test) reading assessment. Please note that this assessment is not intended to measure attainment; rather, it aims to evaluate our students' reading comprehension and skills. Given the disruptions in education during this unprecedented time, it is crucial for us to understand our students' current reading levels. This understanding will help us implement appropriate support, whether online or in-person.
If your child is currently working in a different timezone and is an asynchronous learner, we will contact you individually to ensure they have the opportunity to complete the assessment.
We have modified the assessment process to ensure authenticity in an online environment. Below are the specific details for each grade level.
Thank you for your cooperation in facilitating a fair and honest assessment experience. This will enable us to accurately evaluate your child’s progress and determine the next steps in supporting their reading comprehension and vocabulary development.

Lower School
Grades 1-4
To ensure that the results accurately reflect each child's independent abilities, we kindly request that children complete the assessment without any support or guidance. Students will be placed in small online groups with an adult present for supervision. Teachers will communicate the date and time of your child’s assessment via Seesaw in advance. Please ensure that your child has a quiet space, their camera on, plenty of water, and a comfortable seat, as the assessment may take approximately 30–40 minutes. This approach allows us to analyze your child’s progress effectively and determine next steps for enhancing their reading comprehension and vocabulary.
Grade 5
Similarly, we ask that Grade 5 students complete the assessment independently, without support or guidance. They will also be supervised in small online groups. Teachers will share the assessment schedule via Google Classroom in advance. Ensure your child has a quiet space, their camera on, ample water, and a comfortable seat for the assessment, which may last around 30–40 minutes. Additionally, Grade 5 students must have LanSchool activated during the assessment (please refer to the guidance below). This process will help us accurately assess their progress and inform future support strategies.
Upper School
Students in the Upper School will complete the NGRT assessment during their designated English lessons. It is mandatory for students to have their cameras on and LanSchool activated during the assessment. Please ensure that they have a quiet space and appropriate seating to focus on the task.
To facilitate the transition of Grade 5 students into Grade 6, we had planned to implement LANSchool in Term 3. We will continue to go ahead with this transition while students are working online, but only during assessments at this stage.
Thank you for your continued support. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out.

What is LANSchool?
LANSchool is a classroom management software designed to enhance the learning experience in both physical and virtual classrooms. It allows teachers to monitor student screens in real-time, ensuring that students remain focused on their tasks. Additionally, teachers can control student devices by locking screens or pushing specific applications. LANSchool is widely used in educational institutions to foster a structured and effective learning environment and is already an established practice across the Upper School.
How will LANSchool be installed on my child's device?
LANSchool is compatible only with laptops and not with iPads. In the Upper School, students are permitted to use only devices that support LANSchool during class. For Grade 5 students, IT support will be present in their lessons next week to assist with the installation. This process is straightforward and can be easily managed by the students with IT support. It is preferable for LANSchool to be installed on the students' personal school devices rather than on a parent's device. However, if this is not feasible, students should inform IT during the installation process.
How do we ensure LANSchool does not impact privacy?
LANSchool can only be operated by teachers during school hours, specifically from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM. After this time, the software is disabled. During online learning sessions, LANSchool will be used exclusively to monitor assessments and will not be utilised under any other circumstances. Students who are absent from class will be excluded from LANSchool functionality.
Lower School
It has been great to see how our classrooms are continuing to build connections while prioritising wellbeing and engagement. Through everyday moments, conversations, and shared learning, we are staying connected, engaged, and motivated, even from a distance. A huge milestone was reached this week for Grade 5 as they launched the PYP exhibition. Parents who missed the online information session can access a recording here.
It’s been brilliant to see how learning has continued to evolve, calm, connected, and full of purpose. Our teachers are navigating this with care and creativity, and our students are showing real perseverance, flexibility, and independence. These moments are building far more than knowledge, they are shaping confidence and resilience.

Upper School
During our advisory check-ins this week, we gathered some reflections from all our students. Grade 7 were particularly thoughtful and elegant in their responses - thank you Grade 7!
“The teachers have been very flexible and allow us to work at our own pace. I don’t feel like I'm falling behind with any tasks.”
I have started learning how to manage my time better, as I know when I finish sooner it means I have more time to myself.”
Teachers are very positive and motivate us despite the difficult time.”
PE/Health lessons are so much fun, as they allow us to step away from our computers.”
We appreciate what the teachers are doing for us, as it’s more work for them because they have to constantly check up on us.”
I am grateful that we are not missing out on learning, the lessons are not easier and we are still learning a lot.”
It has been so much better with deadlines and assignments and has been easier to complete them because we can do them straight after our lessons or during snack time. I feel less stressed.”
We are proud of all our students adapting to this new way of learning and thank parents for their support at home to make this a success.
Islamic Value for April – Good Speech (حُسنُ الحَدِيث)
As a school community, we continue to place strong emphasis on student wellbeing, positive relationships, and respectful communication, particularly as students engage in learning and interaction with others.
Our Islamic Value for April is Good Speech (حُسنُ الحَدِيث), aligned with the IB Learner Profile attribute Communicators (مُتَوَاصِلون). This value reminds students of the importance of using kind, respectful, and responsible language, especially during online learning, digital communication, and moments of stress or concern. Speaking with care, listening attentively, and avoiding hurtful or unnecessary speech help create a positive and reassuring learning environment for everyone.
We encourage families to support this value at home by modelling calm and positive communication, discussing current events in an age-appropriate and reassuring manner, and guiding students to use respectful language in all online and offline interactions. Through consistent messages between home and school, we can support our students in developing resilience, empathy, and strong communication skills grounded in Islamic values.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

How the PHE team are keeping children active during online learning
The PHE team is continuing to keep students active and engaged during this period of online learning. In EY-PYP and Lower School PE & 'Swimming' classes, students are engaging in live classes that develop their fundamental movement skills and knowledge of 'health related fitness'. In Grades 4 and 5, students are completing their own fitness journals, tracking their weekly improvements and applying the 'principles of training' (fitter, faster and stronger!) to develop their fitness each week.
In the Upper School, students are studying a variety of Principles and Methods of Training that allow them to develop and maintain their fitness levels whilst learning online. This includes studying training methods such as HIIT workouts, Pilates, Yoga and Circuit Training and applying the principles of training to increase the intensity each week. Students are taking responsibility for their own health and fitness and personalising training methods to achieve their own individual goals. In health lessons, students are developing their knowledge of the 'Components of Fitness' and are designing training plans to achieve bespoke goals.
The PHE team would like to thank and celebrate the whole school participation and engagement in the online lessons, and encourage all community members to stay active and utilise 'at-home' training methods to continuously develop health and wellbeing.

Spanish
Spanish Language B: High Level - Lia Turtulici
Grade 12 Spanish B HL students demonstrated strong focus and concentration during remote learning sessions. They participated in grammar-based online games, showing both enthusiasm and good sportsmanship while collaborating with their peers.
In addition, students engaged thoughtfully with a past paper-style reading task, applying their analytical skills and deepening their understanding of exam expectations. This highlights that learning continues effectively, even in an online environment.
German
German Grade 9 - Ewelina Kowalska
In German Grade 9, students have successfully completed their unit “The World of Work” by creating an Instagram profile for a famous person from a German-speaking country. They explored key aspects such as the first steps in their chosen person’s career, daily life, challenges faced, and achievements earned. Students then stepped into their roles and presented their profiles to the class. I am confident that through this project, all of my students have taken their own first steps into the world of success! Please see a selection of their IG profiles below.
I am supremely pleased to share a few of our student outcomes on a fantastic university admissions season thus far. This year's successes reflect dedication and a strong sense of purpose throughout the IB journey here at Dwight. Each offer is the result of sustained effort, thoughtful preparation and a commitment to personal growth.
To our families and staff, thank you all for your support and guidance: these achievements are to be shared by all. As our students take their next steps, we celebrate not only where they are going, but the character and determination that will carry them forward.
Well done to everyone involved in this collective success. To our students, despite the challenges we currently face, I continue to be very pleased by your successes.

Educational Psychologist
Dear Parents,
Although we are physically apart, it has been great to see the many ways our teachers and children stay connected through distance learning. These connections, through conversations, wellbeing check-ins, polls, quizzes, reflections, and shared experiences, are so important in maintaining a sense of belonging and continuity for our students. In next week's Parent Bulletin, you will receive details of our Term 3 online Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) programme which will begin on Monday, 13th April. We hope that the activities on offer will enrich learning, ignite passion, and strengthen connections across our school community.
In last week's Parent Bulletin, you will recall that there was an article, Supporting Reading, written to support your child’s independent reading at home. We would love to know what your child is reading and for them to share their love of reading. For Early Years this might be drawing, painting, creating a collage or a photo holding a favourite book; for PYP this could be writing a book review with illustrations or a biography about a favourite author; for MYP the creation of a short "movie trailer" for the book or recording a podcast with themes and personal reflections. Share with us at moments@dwight.ae. There will be House Points for every submission!

Warm regards,
