Immediately take attendance each class period. If there are students who arrive tardy or end up being absent, please correct these by the end of the same class period. Any student who is not present within the first 30 minutes is to be counted absent. Documentation should be made for any student that comes in after 30 minutes, but the student must still be counted absent.
We are professionals and should dress in such a manner. Your attire influences the level of respect given to you by students and parents. T-shirts are only allowed on Wednesdays for College and Military shirt day and on Fridays if it is a Duncanville ISD Spirit Shirt. Jeans may be worn on Fridays with a Duncanville spirit shirt only. If the principal feels you are dressing in a manner that could have an adverse effect of how students, parents, and the community perceive you, then this will be brought to your attention. Of course those of you who have assignments that involve physical activity may wear appropriate attire to meet the needs of your students.
Do not leave your class unattended for any reason. Please contact your assigned appraiser if you have an emergency, become ill, or if you are running late due to an on campus meeting, i.e. SPED/504/RTI meetings.
Be vocal and visible in the hall monitoring students during passing periods, and encourage students to get to their next class or lunch. If you have a class during any of the lunch times please monitor students on your way to lunch to ensure all students are safe. Mr. Campbell will provide updates concerning lunch duty responsibilities throughout the school. If you have any questions you are to contact Mr. Campbell.
Teachers, keep students in the class and only release when necessary. Once provided, only use the provided hallway pass. Students are not allowed out of the classroom the first 10 minutes of class, nor are they allowed out the last 10 minutes of the class period. Teachers who fail to adhere to these guidelines will receive both verbal and written warnings from the administrative team.
If you send a student out of your classroom, make sure he/she has a hall pass. Students should not be sent to the hall for punishment for the duration of the period. Only remove a student for a short discussion and return the student to the classroom. Tardy students shall follow the tardy policy. IF AN ADMINISTRATOR OR TEACHER HOLDS A STUDENT, THEN THAT PERSON SHOULD WRITE A PASS. Students may submit excused absence notes to the office during the morning before class, during lunch, or after school.
Take care of your classroom. If every teacher takes pride in the appearance of his/her room, the students will also take pride in their classrooms. In the event furniture is damaged, please contact Mrs. Wilson to have the furniture fixed or removed from the class. Keep your door locked and lights off when the room is unoccupied. Your classroom is to remain locked when you are conducting class.
You are expected to check your Outlook calendars, voicemail, e-mail, and staff mailbox daily. It is also expected that you respond to all messages within 48 hours. Instructions for setting up voice mail and changing your message may be obtained from Google Drive (voicemail setup).
Do not disclose (orally, written, or electronically,) any information regarding a student (academics, behavior, family, medical or personal issues) with anyone that does not have a legitimate educational interest with the student. Whether in a classroom, the staff lounge, or out in public, the unauthorized sharing of this information is in violation of FERPA laws.
You must maintain written documentation of all communication with parents, guardians, students, counselors, etc. regarding a student’s inappropriate conduct and academic concerns. We will transition to Talking Points as a district.
According to the Duncanville ISD Student Code of Conduct, “The district prohibits students from using electronic and/or communication devices during the instructional day and lunch without the express permission of a school administrator and teacher for instructional purposes. During the instructional day, personal learning devices must be set so that incoming calls, text messages or other digital communication do not emit audible sound, including the sound of the device vibrating. Student violations of this policy will result in the confiscation of the device. The device will only be returned to the student's parent after a parent conference and payment of a $15 administrative fee (the fee applies to each violation)”.
Talk with your fourth period classes regarding WIN time. Continuous emphasis placed on student behavior during lunch by the teacher will help make supervision better for all. Teachers are to make sure all students are escorted to the cafeteria prior to taking their personal lunch.
All field trips, including virtual field trips are to be cleared through Ms. Thompson at least six weeks prior to the trip. No student will be allowed to go without a signed waiver from his/her parents or guardian on file. You are to require a TEKS based completed assignment prior to a student going on a field trip. After the completion of a field trip, students should be required to write a summary of the things they learned. Field trips, including virtual field that have nothing to do with the content area will not be allowed.
DO NOT CONDUCT FUNDRAISERS WITHOUT RECEIVING WRITTEN PERMISSION FROM THE PRINCIPAL. There is an appropriate form that must be filled out and chain of command that must be followed.
Any teacher who sponsors a club or organization must keep an updated record of all debits and credits. This record should balance with that of the principal's secretary. All money collected from students for fundraisers must be recorded and turned in daily to Mrs. V. Arredondo. Everyone is to receive a receipt for anything that involves the exchange of money.
Coaches and sponsors, you are responsible for the supervision of these students after school hours, not the administrators. If you cannot fully supervise students, do not take on this responsibility.
