What is Art? How can other subjects be related to art?

Art is something that is subjective to everyone. It all depends on who you ask about it. To some people, art is usually a beautiful painting with a deep meaning behind it. But to others, art can be anything. Other subjects can be related to it because it shows how you can use things to make it.

Ancient Civilizations Chart- Ancient China

For the ancient civilizations chart I talked about the society during this time. I said that

Mandala Research

How is the mandala used? It is used as a Buddhist medicine to help the community and the environment.
How are mandala's related to world civilizations? They are used for meditation with different cultures and religions around the world.
What principles of design can you see? I see Pattern and Balance.
How could you use a mandala to show an atom? Because it's a circle and most atomic models are circles.

What have you been taught about in art this year that relates to other classes? I've been taught about different perspectives and how to see the story behind images, and I can use that skill to look at and interpret other photos in other classes.
What have you done this year so far that demonstrates you understand Principles of Design and Elements of Art. The mandala project used both Principles of Design and Elements of Art.
How do you experiment with different possibilities in your planning and process and how can you show your process? With art you always have a sense of freedom to be able to show your creativity.
What famous/historic art have you learned about so far? I have learned about the portrait of Barack Obama with a flower background by Kehinde Wiley.

What is borax? What chemical elements or compounds are in it? Borax, or also known as Sodium Tetraborate is a household cleaner and a booster for laundry detergent. It contains a mixture of boron, sodium, and oxygen.
Why do you use hot water? What happens as the water cools? You use hot water because it allows the water to receive and hold more of whatever product you're trying to mix in, and this is called super saturation. As the water cools the mixture will crystalize.
How is your 3D sculpture dynamic? My 3D sculpture is a flower and it's dynamic because it's not just a plain shape, it contains multiple different shapes to put the flower together.

3.1.24 Abstraction and STEAM

Abstraction in modernist art became popular in around the early 20th century. It became popular because artists wanted to create art that was not depicting objects as everyone saw them and was not as straightforward. Artists wanted people to use their imagination to understand what the art is about. This can be compared to African abstract art because often in African art there are many bright colors and a lot of movement, but when you look deeper into the artwork there is a story, and usually that story is not something you could depict at first glance. Abstract art causes you to go deeper into your mind to find the story behind the art. Science and math could be related to art work because some artwork uses geometrical concepts like shapes and proportion. For example, Wassily Kandinsky used many mathematical concepts like circles, lines, triangles, and other shapes in his artwork. Personally, I think I would like to work in a more personally expressive way because turning things like math and science into art does not come easily for me, so I would have to go deeper into my imagination to achieve this. But, if I were to work in a more personally expressive way I could use my emotions, or the music I'm listening to, to help me work.
