Building A Box

Working with power tools to make a storage box.

Saw Stop/ Table Saw

Saw Stop Safety:

Wear Safety Glasses

Remove Loose Clothing

Don't put your fingers within 6' of the blade while it is active

Use the feather board

Use the rip fence or miter gauge

Vacuum 10 minutes before class ends

What I Made

Description: The Table has a blade that spins forward and it is used to cut the wood.

CNC Router/Machine

CNC Router/Machine Safety:

Wear safety glasses/goggles

Clamp and/or screw all wood down.

Always watch the CNC router while it is cutting anything.

Do not run a bit over any screws. (Design around the screws.)

What I Made

Description: CNC machines are machines used to cut shapes and designs into many materials such as wood. Make sure to zero the machine before use. Make sure the bit you are using is the proper size for the cut. Test your design before you start the actual cut to make sure there are not any mistakes in your design. Before use clamp your material down to keep it from moving while being cut. You create your design in CAD . CAM is used to insert details into the CNC machine. The CAD software we used is called VCarve Pro and the CAM software we used is ShopBot.

Planer Saw

Evens thickness of material all around

Wear safety glasses.

Adjust the cutting thickness to within 1/16" of the material thickness prior to cutting.

Attach vacuum before use.

Unplug when finished.

Don't put fingers in the opening.

Don't pass and material other than wood through the planer.

Don't pass wood with nails/screws through the planer.

Vacuum after yourself.

What I made

Miter Saw

Uses a big blade to cut at different angles

Safety Guidelines:

Wear safety goggles

Firmly secure the material with your hand outside of the hand placement line and up against the fence

Vacuum after use

Unplug the saw after use

Reduce exposure to the blade

Don't manually move or touch the blade guard

Don't cut material that requires your hand to be outside of the hand placement zone

Don't plug in the saw with the cord across the body

Don't measure material while it is on the saw

What I made

Cut five 9 inch pieces

Cut two 4 3/4 inch pieces

Biscuit Jointer

Uses a circular blade to cut divots into the wood.

Safety guidelines:

Wear safety goggles

Secure the wood

Don't place your hand in front of the blade

Vaccum after use

Unplug saw after use

What I made

Glue up/clamping

What I made

Hand/Orbital sander

Sands the wood and makes all the surfaces even

Safety guidelines:

Make sure cord is long enough to use the sander

Don't touch the sand paper while it is active

Wear safety goggles

The item you’re sanding should be properly secured before you begin.

Clean your sander after use.

Always unplug your sander when it’s not in use, and store it somewhere dry and frost-free.

Always unplug your sander when it’s not in use, and store it somewhere dry and frost-free.

What does the sander do?

What I made

Box is sanded and stained

Adds a color finish to the wood

Safety Guidelines:

Wear gloves

Wear an apron

Use a cloth to spread the stain

Stain with the grain

Open the stain with a flathead screwdriver

Edge-Lit Lamp Light

Brief

Today we found out we are going to develop and create an Edge-Lit Lamp Light. In order to do that we are going to use pixel strip lights to light up our lamps. We are going to program the lights with Arduino. We are going to make a base out of wood with the top piece being acrylic with our message carved in it. We will be using Inkscape to develop a CAD.
