About Me...My name is Tarrence Sturdivant, and I’m a high school senior about to graduate from Drew Charter School. I’m 18 years old and have lived in Atlanta my entire life. I live with my mom, brother, two sisters, and our dog, Bear, at our home in Adamsville. My grandparents live just down the street, making it easy for us to stay close and connected. With my immediate family nearby, home is never far, and that sense of closeness has truly grounded me as I’ve grown up here in Atlanta.
Outside of school, I stay busy working late shifts for my granddad's construction business after a full day of classes and basketball practice. In addition to work and sports, I’m involved in clubs like Young Life and a nonprofit organization my friends and I started in 11th grade called Shoethics. Balancing all of this with an exceptional GPA has shaped me significantly. My packed schedule has taught me the importance of time management and valuing each responsibility, keeping me focused and committed to my goals.
After high school, I will be attending Morehouse College. I’m genuinely excited to begin this next chapter of my education and career journey, as I work toward my long-term goal of becoming a Marketing Manager. What draws me to marketing is its powerful blend of creativity and strategy, how a single message, visual, or campaign can influence how people think, feel, and act. I want to learn how to tell stories that resonate, build authentic connections between brands and communities, and use those skills to make a real impact.
Beyond the classroom, I’m looking forward to getting deeply involved on campus. I plan to volunteer regularly because giving back has always been important to me. Whether it’s working with local youth programs, helping organize community events, or supporting causes that matter, I want to use my time and energy to serve those around me.
I’m also excited to be part of the theater program at Morehouse. Theater has always been a passion of mine, it's a space where I can express myself, grow as a communicator, and connect with others on a meaningful level. I believe the experience I gain in theater will help me become a more confident speaker and creative thinker, both of which are key qualities in the marketing field.
One of my biggest goals while at Morehouse is to intern with Inspire Brands, a company I admire for its innovative marketing approach and its portfolio of well-known brands. I want to get hands-on experience working in a real-world marketing environment, learning from professionals in the field, and building the skills I need to succeed after graduation.
Overall, I see my time at Morehouse as an opportunity to grow personally, academically, and professionally. I’m ready to step into every challenge, embrace every opportunity, and make the most out of this journey.
What is Drew like? How is Drew different than other schools? Why did you choose to attend Drew?
I’ve been a part of Charles R. Drew Charter School since Early Learning before Pre-K! So when I say Drew feels like family, I mean it literally. I’ve grown up in these halls, with teachers and classmates who’ve watched me grow and supported me every step of the way.
What makes Drew different from other schools is the strong sense of tradition and community. It’s not just about academics—it’s about opportunity, creativity, and character. From STEAM-based learning to the arts, sports, leadership programs, and service projects, Drew gives us space to discover who we are and how we want to impact the world.
I chose to continue attending Drew because it’s more than a school—it’s home. The values we practice here, like excellence, responsibility, and community, have shaped me into who I am today. Drew invests in its students, not just academically, but as whole people. That’s rare, and that’s why I’ve stayed.
