Water Molecule
For this unit, we talked about different bonds, such as covalent, ionic, and metallic. Ionic bonds are composed of both metals and non-metals. Covalent bonds are composed of only non-metals. Metallic bonds are composed of only metals. The bond that forms when dyeing textiles is a covalent bond. Due to the paper being made of cellulose, you can use dyes to form covalent bonds, making the color stick. For this molecule art project, I decided to use H20, a covalent compound. I chose to do water because it is an essential part of everyday life. I used a unique pattern that I designed to demonstrate the bond between the single oxygen atom and the two hydrogen atoms. I utilized art through shape, color, and space. The lines I used to convey a connection between the atoms. I used watercolors to make a covalent bond between the paper of dyes.
