To make my coasters, I first chose my wood and then drew a sketch planning how I wanted my wood to look on my coasters. Then I used the table saw to make the darker pieces of wood skinnier and the miter saw to make sure all of my pieces were 17 inches. Then I glued all of my pieces together in the same order I sketched them in and clamped them until the glue dried.
Throughout the process of creating our business, we had to take many factors into account. Our prototypes often turned out exactly how we wanted them but when we incorporated feedback sometimes the products turned out flawed. Our primary research resulted in finalizing who our main target market would be: HBCU supporters. To cater to this audience, we produced various HBCU & Greek-themed products. My partner & I conducted an interview with a Greek HBCU alumna who provided insight on what she would be interested in buying: things like keychains and bracelets. Through all this, we had to make sure, that we were making our products have reasonable prices. To do this, we looked at the competitive market and compared prices to see if our own prices should be lower, higher, or around the same price. To ensure that we would be making a profit we constantly had to calculate our unit cost for each product.
