Driving Question
How can we create a sustainable and inclusive food system that promotes cultural diversity,health,and social equity? To create a sustainable and inclusive food system, we need to support local farmers, establish community gardens, and ensure fresh, culturally diverse foods are accessible to everyone. Celebrating food traditions through festivals and education can preserve cultural heritage, while policies should include diverse food options in assistance programs. Public health campaigns and school programs can teach people how to prepare healthy, culturally relevant meals, promoting equity, health, and respect for diversity.
Our goal for the project we had to make ceramics from different classes.They were all related because each culture used pottery/ceramics in different needs and ways.For art class I made a vase.What encouraged me to make this vase was doing research on the Caribbean Pottery.After the research I chose to do a vase since that is a popular pot in the Caribbean.This is related to the Columbian exchange because the artifacts that they made would be use for trade for other goods.For this project what worked was making the base, what was harder to make was the neck of the vase.If I had more time I would have tried to fix the neck more on the vase.In my group I worked with Jordyn and Fiero
Word Literature - Recipe Card
During this section of the Food For Thought project, we got into groups and thought of a recipe that incorporated ingredients that represent each group members culture and identity. My group chose to create a recipe for churros, as well as dipping sauces that were made of fruits that each represented our identity. We used this project as an opportunity to explore the connection that identity has to food, as well as what identity means to us on a personal level.
