We took a field trip to the high museum to look at different artifacts from ancient civilizations. After the museum, we went to the restaurant No Mas Cantina. We learned about the different cuisines and spoke about our food in Spanish. The picture aside shows the food I ordered.
The goal of the food for thought project in Visual Arts was to create a table setting with ceramics, inspired by one of the countries involved in the Columbian exchange. Different classes were related because they highlighted food from other cultures and the Columbian exchange. For example, in AP World History, we engaged in a cook-off using ingredients from different hemispheres before the Columbian exchange. As I stated before, the goal of the Food for Thought project in Visual Arts was to create a table setting with ceramics inspired by one of the countries involved in the Columbian exchange. My group and I decided to make a dish set from North America, which was a huge part of the Columbian exchange by spreading several types of crops. The pottery relates to my group and I because we are all from North America. Making the forms and shapes of the dishes worked for me. Initially, painting a design that went well with the form of the plates was very, very difficult. However, I managed to paint and create work I am very proud of. If I had more time, I would have made a teacup to go along with the plates. All in all, it was most certainly a fun project! To see my full presentation, click here.
The grade level project is Food for Thought, where we are incorporating food into different classes. For AP World History, I participated in a cook-off inspired by the Columbian Exchange. It was incredibly difficult to cook with only food from my hemisphere. We were limited to specific spices and garnishes our food was very mediocre. We did well with what we were provided. However, it could have tasted much better. I wish we could have added some type of protein, suck as chicken or turkey. It would have added so much more flavor and variety to our dish. All in all, it was a challenging but enjoyable project!
We created an original recipe using the ingredients we were assigned in World History. My group and I decided on chocolate blueberry bread. We were also asked to bake this food and bring a sample for the class. My group and I thoroughly enjoyed baking with all the ingredients from different hemispheres and tasting everyone else's dishes!
