For the second quarter, the entire grade level worked on a project called Deeply Rooted that explored how symbols can express both cultural differences and similarities. We looked at how symbols are used throughout the world and developed our own, more contemporary symbols. During art class, we made handmade paper and crystals of borax that we utilized to form symbols. I went with a layered rhombus since it represents development and change to me. The paper was tough to cut and size, and I would like to make it more elaborate and perhaps larger so that it seems more detailed next time. Our art was displayed with performances from other cultures on the day of the showcase.
We completed a PBL project centered on the symbolism of trees. On Friday, we held a display. My design was initially inspired by a totem pole, so I tried to create a face. Space was one of the three components of art that I incorporated into my design by leaving practical vacant space. Shape, which I included by including various geometric shapes into my design, and form, which I incorporated by incorporating a three-dimensional shape. By making my design balanced and symmetrical, I applied design principles. This relates to what I've been learning about proofs because I was able to demonstrate my geometrical shapes using the equations I learned. When I began drawing, I had to consider the characteristics of parallelograms to make sure I had everything needed.
