The first day of AP Human Geography, our teacher, Mr. Bennett, gave all of the students in our class parts of a world map and we had to work together to assemble the entire map.
An activity we did in AP Human Geography was translating different words into different languages with different alphabets and seeing the different patterns.
In my Literature class, we created empathy collages that compared a character from the Odyssey to a character or person from current times. My group and I chose to compare Odysseus to a modern day soldier. Odysseus is forced to leave his wife and son to fight the Trojan War, which was started by the Gods, and he continues to be manipulated by the Gods, the people in power, throughout most of the story. This compared to modern day soldiers because they must leave their families to fight a war. We also identified the inner struggle of Odysseus that he may share with modern day soldiers. Odysseus' inner struggle throughout the course of the Odyssey is that he misses his wife and son and just wants to get back to them. Odysseus shows that he wants to get home so badly by going to extreme lengths to overcome obstacles. Odysseus was a soldier so naturally, he would have a lot in common with modern day soldiers. They would face the same kind of worries about battle and if they may ever go home again.
In my AP Human Geography class we are working on creating a mind map, as well as an art piece showing our personal and family history. We researched things like when our family first came to the United States and where they came from. The project asked us three main questions, Where did you come from? How did you get here? Where are you going? The mind map would show things about your life, things about you and things you want to achieve.
This was the art piece I created for my Mind Map Project. I have picture of my family, the state seals of important places for my family history, symbols representing the U.S. Army and Navy for my grandparents who were part of those organizations, flags of the countries that are parts of my heritage, and my art that is very important to me.
In my Geometry class we had a project that was to design a fish tank with multiple geometric shapes. The fish tank had to be a specific volume and we had to calculate the volume using inverse operations.
