AP Language Final Project:
For this project, we got to choose between different projects where we would exhibit our own personal growth throughout the past year. I chose to write a personal narrative essay that showed my growth in being able to feel my feelings and be present in the moment. This essay was important for me to write because it gave me a place to actually observe my growth.
In this class we chose different Emily Dickinson poems to put to music. My group chose the poem "I years had been from home". In this poem the speaker is revisiting a place that may have once been home but they are scared to face the fact that time has changed this place they once loved into something completely different. The first line of the poem ends with the word "home" and the last line of the poem, "Fled gasping from the house" ends with the word house, a similar word to home but completely striped of all love, fondness, and feelings of comfort. The progression of the poem shows the speaker's realization of the fact that her reality has been changed further than they knew. When creating the score for this we wanted to create a sad, mournful tone so we used a range of minor chords that we though progressively got deeper and sadder which follows the progression of the poem where the speaker realizes they have lost forever what they though they once had.
Letter to 2022:
When we came back to school at the beginning of the semester, we did a creative writing prompt where we wrote a letter to the new year. This is mine below:
In my AP Language class, we have been working on a Connecting Threads Project. For this project, we selected different abstract concepts ranging from education to environment to death. The concept that I chose was gender. I researched multiple different sources that would support my claim that gender is important to one's identity and society. This is my claim on the significance of gender in our society: " Gender is a fluid identifier in our changing society and it can determine the way in which someone expresses themselves, it determines if someone will be treated as an object, and one’s gender can decide how much value society awards them." Once we found all of our sources and wrote extensive commentaries on all of them, we began to draft our essays. Then we created a slide presentation that is composed of videos that explains the significance of our quotes from our sources and how they contribute to our thesis. We are also working on prototypes for a wood sculpture that will be a representative art piece of the ideas expressed in our essays. I am excited to learn how to use Inkscape, the software where we will be designing our sculptures.
This I Believe
In this project, we wrote about something we strongly believe in, and then we created a video of us saying our essay. My driving point is that everyone has their own reasons behind their theological beliefs and it is no one's place to force their own thoughts or religion onto another person. I used Procreate to animate my video presentation.
