This project was completed as part of a film course following a unit on the evolution of cinema, with particular focus on the silent film era, where storytelling relied on title cards and exaggerated physical expression rather than spoken dialogue. I collaborated with four classmates, Jonathan, Laila, and Awa as actors, and Lucian as the camera operator. During production, I encountered technical challenges with editing, specifically related to slower playback speed during both the editing and export processes. However, this issue ultimately contributed to the stylistic quality of the film, reinforcing the pacing often associated with early cinema.
Through this project, I developed significantly as a writer by learning to convey narrative meaning without dialogue, relying instead on visual storytelling, structure, and intentional sequencing. As a thinker, I strengthened my ability to analyze historical film techniques and apply them creatively to solve modern production challenges. As a communicator, I improved my capacity to collaborate effectively with a team, and clearly articulate creative direction. These skills are essential not only in filmmaking but in any context that requires clear, purposeful communication and creative problem solving.
This was one of our first major projects in AP Computer Science. Our task was to create and tell a story using python. My story was a story of two towers and how the people in one tower felt no motivation to be proactive which led to their destruction. This was a fun project which ended up taking me one week and a half to complete.
This assignment required the selection of a historical period from the AP U.S. History curriculum and the creation of a one-pager that analyzed it through multiple thematic lenses, including National Identity, Politics and Power, Work, Exchange and Technology, Migration and Settlement, Environment and Geography, Culture and Society, and America and the World. The task demanded not only content knowledge but also the ability to synthesize complex historical information into a clear, organized, and visually concise format.
Through this project, I developed as a writer by strengthening my ability to communicate dense historical concepts with precision and clarity while maintaining concision. Presenting multiple themes within a limited space required careful word choice and strong organizational structure, which are essential skills for effective academic writing. As a thinker, I improved my ability to make connections across different historical themes and recognize how various forces interact to shape a time period. This type of analytical thinking is critical for deeper historical understanding, as it moves beyond memorization and toward interpretation and evaluation. As a communicator, I enhanced my ability to present information in a way that is both accessible and engaging. The one-pager format required intentional design and clarity so that an audience could quickly understand key ideas. This skill is valuable in both academic and professional settings, where the ability to convey complex information efficiently is essential.
