Borax is a powdery white substance used in cleaning products and also used to do laundry. Borax is a compound made of Boron and sodium. Hot water is used to supersaturate the water and increase the amount of Borax to dissolve. As the water cools, the borax crystallizes onto the pipe cleaners. My sculpture is dynamic because it is not symmetrical and it has different curves on both sides of the shape, also, it has different length lines that go downward.
In honor of Black History Month, in Visual Art, we did a project on black artists from the 1900's. The artist I chose was Charles Alson. Charles Alston was a prominent painter, sculptor, and muralist known for works like Modern Medicine and his murals at Harlem Hospital. He became famous as a leading figure of the Harlem Renaissance and for being the first African American supervisor in the Works Progress Administration’s Federal Art Project. His art and leadership helped create opportunities for Black artists and celebrated African American identity, making a lasting cultural impact on the Black community in the 1900s.
