Atlanta Mind Project
The Atlanta Mind Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was founded in response to personal tragedy within my community. I joined the E-board, as the Communications Director, along with co-founders Taylor Harper and Samuel West. Since its founding, we've hosted mental wellness workshops, accumulated over 1,000 interactions on our social media account, and secured community partnerships and grants through the YMCA and 21st Century Leaders. We partnered with the East Lake Family YMCA to host a wellness workshop for 12th-grade students about how to manage college application stress. We spoke with a trained school psychologist about ways to cope with stress and then participated in a yoga class.
Yearly, my school hosts a school-wide service project in honor of MLK Day. This year, I volunteered to help pack meals and boxes of food to be distributed. Pictured is me at the boxing station, counting the packs of rice so that we can pack a full box. It is always important to me to volunteer and serve the community in some type of capacity because I am in a position to pay it forward and help others.
At church, I serve as a doorkeeper every third Sunday of the month. I have been attending this church since I was born, and I have become progressively more involved in the church as I have grown older. I enjoy door keeping because not only do I get a chance to serve the lord, but I can also serve and help others within the church.
