Chemvas Typography

To create our signs we used the website skecht.io. In this process of creating our ChemVas Typography I learned how to use different tools like the brush tool, shape tool, and clipart tool etc. This process was fun, trying different designs and editing images. Making the sign was definitely time consuming and a little bit frustrating at times but was a great experience. I would definitely us this website future projects and in my free time, this website will help me hone and improve my art skills.

Artist Statement

Today, we created messy art using a canvas and many painting tools. In the process of creating this, I got paint on my shoe which was a bummer but it was really fun. When I was creating the background I used back and grey then to get it to the ends of the canvas I tilted it side to side, as for the front ground I used the colors red, pink, and yellow, used these colors because I felt like the corresponded with each other and to get the design I used the spatter technic. The color that is denser than the other colors was black, I say this because it took up more space on the board and it was thicker than the other colors, as for the least dense color I would have to say pink because it took up less space on the board and it was smooth and thin.

Element Tile

In class, we created element tiles and the element I had was Yttrium, so when researching ideas I saw that my element was found in lasers, as you can see from the picture the thing popping out/standing up is a laser. In this process, we created our shapes with clay and I scored, slipped, and blended the Y, the 39, and the laser into my square-shaped tile. When I was finished creating my element tile without the glaze we put them in the kiln to be bisk fired, then after the clay was dried out we glazed them and when we finished glazing them we put them in the kiln to be glaze fired. In this process it was super fun and entertaining.

Jason Thrash - Deeply Rooted Entry Event Digital Portfolio Template

We are currently learning about Ancient civilization Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, and China. Learning about these different civilization really helped me to understand what it was like to build things in the Ancient times. We recently had a project where we made mud bricks. In Order to create these mud bricks we needed to dig a hole and fill it with water, then we needed to add the dirt that we dug out back into the hole filled with water and get it to a syrup-type consistency. Then,  we put the mud in a brick mold to get the shape we wanted. Finally, we let it sit outside and let the brick harden. Next, we created little tents or an outline for housing using bamboo sticks and string.

Jason Thrash - Deeply Rooted

Artist Statement

Deeply Rooted was a whole grade level project for 2nd quarter, which sought to answer how symbols can reflect cultural differences and similarities. In this deeply rooted project, we researched and created symbols by using paper, but not just any kind of paper. We created this paper but using recycled paper, water, a blinder, a screen, and a water-absorbent fabric. This process was easy and fast. For my creation I cut out a circle(representing the earth) and created a peace sign in the foreground, then I put the earth in the background, thus representing peace on earth. We also created Borax crystals, for this one I created a heart with wires coming out representing how everyone nowadays is always on some kind of tech. On the day of the showcase, our work was featured alongside performances representing cultures around the world.

Change Gonna Come

In this project we researched different conflicts that could be causes of war. Then we sketched out the conflicts on paper into a small image. Finally, we combined all of our ideas onto the Guernica and painted it black, white, gay, and gold.
