How would you describe the Drew community?
I would describe the Drew community as a tight-knit group. Everything about Drew is very personable. Specifically relationships between the administration/teachers/staff and the students. I’ve seen so many people throughout the school bond with Ms. Owens (one of the lunch ladies) or Mr. Don (one of the maintenance men). Then of course students build bonds with their teachers. That’s not to say teachers make things easy for the students, but it means the students can approach the teachers comfortably when they have questions or concerns
What is your favorite Drew tradition?
My favorite Drew tradition is Orientation week and midnight madness. Orientation week basically helps introduce new students or upcoming 9th graders into the school. Different grades do different activities around the school or environment throughout the week. On Friday Seniors spend a good portion of the day doing community service around the city. Additionally, friday is when we have midnight madness which is a big party for 9th- 12th graders that lasts until midnight. Every year, my friends from other schools are surprised that we get to stay at school and party all night which is why Drew is extraordinary.
Why did you choose Drew?
I didn’t decide to come to Drew originally because I was so young, but at a certain point, I did decide to remain at Drew versus switching to a different middle or high school. One major reason why was because I appreciated the school uniform. It’s so much easier to put on a polo or button-down shirt and khakis as opposed to finding an outfit every day. Additionally, I love how many friends I’ve had since early childhood by default.
