In this essay, I discussed Malcolm X and Fredrick Douglass. I compared and contrasted their experiences with learning how to read and write. What I learned while writing this is how to correctly write out a thesis, as well as improving my skills with writing, as I do each time I write an essay.

In this assignment, I will be making a one-pager that summarizes the first part of the book by featuring Wiesel’s quote as well as adding quotes, images, and symbols that demonstrate how the book changed Henrietta Lacks from an abstraction to a person with her own secrets, treasures, anguish, and triumph. My one-pager illustrates Henrietta surrounded by stars, planets, and comets to represent how she had her own universe and was her own person, and her life was not just the cells. My words speak loud as well, showing that she was human, like us all, and should be remembered for more than just science.
