Volunteering means choosing to give your time and effort to help others or improve your community without expecting to be paid. It’s about making a positive impact, whether that’s helping people in need, supporting local organizations, or contributing to causes you care about. Volunteering also helps you build empathy, responsibility, and a stronger connection to the world around you.
Drew Charter School requires students to complete 100 volunteer hours during high school to encourage personal growth beyond academics. This requirement pushes students to step outside their comfort zones, experience different perspectives, and develop important life skills like leadership, teamwork, and compassion. It also helps students become more engaged citizens by understanding the needs of their communities and learning how they can make a difference. In the long run, these experiences not only strengthen college applications but also shape students into more well-rounded and socially responsible individuals.
