What is art? How can other subjects be art?
Art is the way of expressing an emotion or feeling without words. Art can be expressed in many different ways. Any subject can be art. For example, whether it’s as simple as a line on a sheet of paper or as detailed as the Mona Lisa it all has a meaning. Some may like and understand it some may not but, sometimes you have to look at things in a different perspective and deeper meaning.

Food for Thought Project
The goal of this project was to incorporate techniques and designs related to the Columbian exchange. Every class related something from each teacher's standard to embody into the project. In ELA we read How the Garcia Girls Lost their Accent. We talked about how food relates to identity. We also created recipes for food that represented our identity. In Geometry we talked about food swamps and food deserts. We embodied dilations into the number of miles it takes to get to the nearest grocery store. We then presented our slide presentation about food swamps and food deserts. World History we learned about the Columbian exchange featuring our cook-off. Art class, we learned about different types of pottery and ceramics. We played around with clay to spark ideas for the project. Everything came together as planned and we had more time to make a whole set.

Food for Thought: Cook-off Video
The cook-off for World History was a fun experience. I was able to show of my magnificent cooking skills and it payed off. My group won the cook-off and as a reward we all received extra credit to our semester grade.

In this project, we researched different conflicts. In art, we were given a piece of Picasso’s Guernica. We had to sketch out a contemporary conflict that we wanted to incorporate into our painting. We were then given a cardboard cut out of our piece of the Guernica. After the project we had to record an artist statement discussing our issue we chose for our piece. In ELA we made propaganda posters about a contemporary conflict and wrote an essay about them. In World History we learned about different conflicts and how they escalated to wars. In Geometry we learned about how statistics can evolve into conflicts. We incorporate the propaganda posters with statistics to create a new poster. Lastly, in Chemistry we learned about how paint is made using different chemicals, powders, and compounds. We were challenged to make forest green with creative ratios.
