In my ninth grade year, I had the pleasure of performing for the Summit for School Choice event at Sale Hall on the Morehouse campus. The summit was organized by the organization B.O.O.K (Better Outcomes for Our Kids). There was a panel where numerous topics were discussed like autonomy at the schoolhouse level, school choice, and the prospect of bringing more charter schools to Atlanta. Students from the Utopian Academy for the arts sang and gave a dance performance, while the Urban Youth Harp ensemble, which Drew's harp program is a chapter of, played numerous pieces on the harp. Below are some images and a brief recording of our performance.
I also was provided the opportunity to perform with Full Radius. Full Radius is a dance group that consists of disabled and able-bodied dancers. For this project, Drew's harp program partnered with Detroit composer, Maurice Draughn who wrote us a special piece entitled Phasing. After an audition process, four select students were chosen to play this piece with Full Radius at the 7 Stages theater right here in Atlanta, Georgia. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Even after our performance, Full Radius agreed to come to Drew and repeat our performance for the entire school.
