Towards the end of my Sophomore year, my English teacher Ms. Mayes tasked us with writing a speech based on the theme: Empowerment. We had complete creative control over the specific topic of our speeches. I chose to write about how we, as a society, view and determine the worth of our peers and ourselves. As a young woman living during a time where social media is a prevalent influence on my peers' lives, I thought it was important to help my classmates and my audience realize that the way in which you view and value yourself should always be more important than others opinions of you. Once we had completed our speeches we presented them at our empowerment conference, held at the school for our family and friends.
Along with writing for our empowerment conference, I also had to write a book. The book could be no shorter than 60 pages, they had to published, and listed on Amazon for purchase. Initially, I struggled to choose a topic that would be interesting enough for me to feel inspired to write the longest piece of literature in my portfolio to date, I chose to write a book highlighting the world's most famous Track and Field Athletes. As an athlete, I have done my fair amount of research on professional athletes in my respective sports, simply out of curiosity. Therefore, I came to the conclusion that writing about some of the world's most famous athletes would be the inspiration that I needed.
