Week Two: I have contacted Young Don the Sauce God via Instagram and learned how to connect my computer program with my piano so I can play music comfortably.
Week Three: I have done a rough draft of two male characters, one older/one younger, and created a sequence of female characters starting from oldest to youngest. I also made the foundation of my practice song on my program and explored the different elements and plugins that I could add in the melody that I have started creating.
Week Four: I primarily focused on the coloring aspect of adobe and different shapes I could use to outline shapes. For example I used perspective in the third image at the bottom with different colors(yellow/green/white)to form it into a hall for this specific story line. That articular image is different rom a few weeks ago, because I tried to clean up the lines, add, and brighten up color for the walls. I also tried to fade out a color in the photo towards the left at the top(Brown fade down the face). I also practiced FL studios and finished the melody of the song. As you can see in the image, one of the bars is moved to the bottom compared to last week where everything was nice and stacked on top of each other. I tried to create diversity in my tracks, so it cannot be stacked 24/7 for me to change the sound. As for the changes my teacher recommended, My portfolio will not support my video clip (MP4), so I will continue to work on it and figure out way. Regardless, the video will be submitted by the last week of the semester(Which was planned in project calendar). I worked on music theory with Minors and the circle of fifths until I memorized it.
Week Five: This past week , my task was to start making a clip of my adobe work and my practice song to turn in next week. I looked up how to export my practice song clip to my files. I also worked on the practice song a little bit more and added two extra tracks. I added my story line to adobe to start to color and add animations of the different layers. I chose three potential scenes of my story to present in the clip. I also contacted more animators, since don never responded.
Final Presentation:
I made three clips of my adobe work from over this semester. First, I have my adobe animation clip introducing myself and my presentation. The adobe Spanish story book is centered around a girl who loves to dance, but she is doubted by everyone and herself when she strives to achieve her dreams. Since it is a clip and a story, it is left off with a cliffhanger to give the reader suspense. My music production is a bit suspenseful itself! It is imperfect, but I am sure to get better with time.
English Translation:
"Hi, My name is Nina Luna. I love my sister Julia and my friend Marco Sueno. I wish I could dance and sing, but nobody believes in me."
Semester 1 Reflection, and getting started again:
I think that the fact that I finished everything in a short period of time is what went really well with the project. I saw that there was a suggestion that I should make the song longer. That was a "clip" of a song, since I was honestly just exploring the program with it as a practice song. I chose this comment, because it will naturally be longer. Another comment was that I should go more in depth with why I chose or made that song. I will go more in depth with the song I will make for the rest of these months, since it is supposed to be less of a practice song and more complete. I'll probably either make a video explaining the song or just write about it. I chose this comment, because for the audience to connect with the song, sometimes you do need more of a description. I will make my project public by posting it on Youtube.
Week 2: I started on my new song after exploring the software some more on break. I found different sounds from different cultures to use in a hook. So I was playing around with some notes and began on my hook by playing and practicing the piano. I also made a simple picture on adobe (drawn & colored). It kind of reminds me of the animation of the show "Kids Next Door".
Week 3: I found some sounds that I wanted to use and created a beat. The hook is almost finished now, except for a few more tweaks. But I already thought of some ideas that I would want for my story. Right now I'm just focusing on finishing the song so that the animation and story can correlate with the genre and type of music/lyrics that I produce.
Week 4: In terms of art, I started drawing different things and made two paintings which represents different strokes or ideas that I can have in my visual art that I'm creating in Adobe.. I'm thinking that for my characters I would go more towards Huey(Brown-skinned boy with Afro) simply because it is more realistic and simplistic for me to do in a short time period. I did practice adobe photoshop and tried to create something with a little more detail but the colors weren't filling in fast enough so I decided to go with a more basic character.
Week 5: This is me in the process of creating a melody for one of the options for the song. It's just a little sneak peak on what might be possible for me to do. Right now I'm going toward another choice a song I made that is almost finished. I need to do some more finishing touches on it. I also started on adobe animate. I knew that I wanted a simple style of art, so I began with a little sketch of a stick figure and started to move him so he appears to be walking. If I do this method of animation of drawing and redrawing(Like a flipbook), then I might do a stick-figure animation story.
Week 6: I finished the basis of my storyline and finished the production of the song. After acquiring my storyline and the theme that I want for the music video, I've chosen to possibly make a few tweaks to the song. Overall, I need to edit the song to make it sound more professional and complete. The story is called the "Dormant Queen", which is about a average girl who is expected to fail and not achieve greatness. A premonition occurs where the girl is really a dormant queen who slowly has her power and true self awakened with every battle she conquers. This is more of an evil main character where she goes through pain and turmoil caused by others and grow to be her true self immersed with energy and power due to her pain. For the animation, I made a list of what I need to learn and in the past week I have learned how to walk a stick figure.
Week 7: I've edited the song to make it sound more related to the story line I've created for the music video. The deep loud guitar strings are supposed to bring out the climax of the story(Almost like a power up). I still need to do more editing, but so far, I won't need to do much more looking at how much time I have. I had an idea to add a violin as an "extra power up", but I'm still contemplating. I also think I should get rid of some tracks so that it sound more simplistic so that the "power ups" can get the attention they need.
Week 8: This week's assignment was to add on top of the song. The picture all the way to the left is called the mixer. The mixer is where you can mix sounds and add on top of the song you already have to make a new sound. Like If I want to put an FX sound that's called underwater, I would add that sound to my voice and I would sound a bit eerie and melancholy like I'm underwater. The picture in the middle is where you can order and increase the sound(make it louder or softer)of that track that you create and the last picture is the product of me adding sounds on top of the original song. I added a few more sounds and changed the volume so It won't sound crowded.
Week 10: Review and Incorporate Peer Feedback
I would firstly like to thank everyone for the continuing support that has been given to me. I know a lot of my peers are joyfully surprised at the amount of detail that I'm putting in my story and I would just like to thank them for the applause. I'm trying to create a story line that connects to the pathos of my audience even if the animations aren't exactly professional, so I am grateful. One of my peers stated that it is good that I'm finding the limits of animation. I'm trying to be as realistic as I can. I don't want to stress myself out trying to be a professional animator in a few months so placing limits for now is really helpful for me, hence I'm glad that they noticed that.
One suggestion that was said was to finish my music and then add the animations so the story can be more developed and their is more motivation to complete if I have a foundation. I was actually already doing that. I'm finishing the lyrics to the finished instrumental and then after all I have to do is record. After I finish the lyrics, I will start going in on the animations more. Another suggestion is to simplify the animations so that it could be easier to animate. I'm trying to find more techniques so that the stick figures can be completed faster, but it's really hard. Still, I am trying to find different methods so that I can do it faster, but remain in the context of the story.
Week 11: I made my outline of characters and scenes. The red stickman is the queen while the blue stickmen are her enemies. The explanation of the scenes are writing under from suffering to becoming queen. While I was working on my characters, I also started working on highlights and shadows through drawing lips and spheres(Probably going to be used in my animation) and I began to practice drawing faces. I did an outline of small faces and then made one out of a character from an anime.
Week 12: I made the opening and ending scenes of the video. The one in with the most color is either going to be the beginning or the middle, but as you can see she is still in the "dormant" zone of the transition of the story. I will maximize into her lips so that the lips are saying the lyrics. The white art piece is the end result once she is fully awakened. This is supposed to give a spiritual type of vibe where it shows her true self at the end of the transformation and the bloody battle. It's like coming from a shell of a person that is not her true inner self for fear that she is a monster, but this image shows embracing herself into the being she truly is.
Week 12: I made the lip animation for reciting the lyrics of the song in the music video. I might might need to add a tightly closed lips so that it can form the starting letter shape, "M". I feel like did good though. It took me a while to decide the speed of the animation, but I decided to slow and speed the lips based on how fast my lyrics are going. My photoshop artwork and "lyric lips" is nearly finished, so now I just have to figure out backgrounds and work more on the stick figures. I got a animation book recently so I'm currently trying to figure out how a faster way to animate the stick figures. Also, the song and lyrics are finished.
Week 13: I'm learning how to animate a run or a walk so I tried out one of the program's samples and used a pig and one of their backgrounds. My goal was to do an easier run that is more smooth, less choppy, and more efficient. My mom helped me out, since I was very confused but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty simple. I also tried photoshop at the same time and used a picture of my sister to make into a cartoon or an art piece for her birthday. It's my first time using someone to outline and remake but it was really fun!
Week 14&15: I worked on some of the fighting scenes in Adobe photoshop. I also created the landscape and background for where she would be traveling during her journey. I tried to keep it simple(No nose/sometimes no eyes/ no lips) but also but detail into the features of the limbs to make it seem more action oriented. During these two weeks, I also worked with my friend and freestyled on a couple of random beats on Youtube. I sang pretty nicely and fluently through everything and we actually ended up making a song that we're possibly going to release.
Week 16: I created more fighting scenes and encounters with her enemy. I'd have to make a few more backgrounds and two more fighting stances., but for the most part, the fighting scenes are almost done. I would have to make the ending scenes and a intermission for a part in the song. There are multiple enemies as well so I would have to go through and make some more enemies with fewer fighting scenes than her.
Week 17: My Adobe program actually stopped working. It is currently being fixed so in the meantime, I went over the music production. I looked up a few videos on how to add audio and connected all the cords from the microphone to my computer. I also had an interface to be the connection between both technological devices. The only other thing I need is some headphones, which I am in the process of buying. I was still involved in Animation by watching videos on smooth animation stories from scratch.
Week 18: Took the AP exam today!
Week 19: Completed Music video!
Week 20: Edited and Completed Music Video
