Ab Initio
Which level of the European levels (CEFR) will the students be at the end of grade 12? Between A2 and B1.

What are the differences between HL, SL, ab initio, and the High School diploma? See info below.
My child was in German Lang & lit during the MYP, can he/she join the Ger B course in DP? Answers in the relevant sections of this site.
Does my child need German HL to be able to study in Germany? Not for international students, they have to pass a language entrance test at the university.
What else can the student do to improve the knowledge of German? The students can attend out of school summer intensive courses and try to use their German outside of school much more.
Is it possible to join the SL course with only very basic knowledge of German and do a parallel German course after school? This is not recommended.

Is the subject teacher the person who grades the final exams in grade 12? No. The listening, reading and writing components are externally administered and assessed. The oral component in internally administered and assessed, but moderated by the IB.
Which books do we read in the HL course?
German B: Gut gegen Nordwind / Tschick.
Spanish: The pupils choose the two literary works based on their personal preferences but complying with the IB expectations (2 different genres and from 2 different Spanish-speaking countries.) Some works that we have read in the past were: Bodas de sangre (Lorca), La casa de Bernarda Alba (Lorca), Fútbol a sol y a sombra (Eduardo Galeano), Un viejo que leía novelas de amor (Sepúlveda).

Ms Shelly Quick - I am a Canadian teacher who has been teaching for around 20 years. I have taught English literature and English as a second or other language to students from kindergarten to college age. The DP English B programme is one of my favourites to teach because of the range of topics we cover and the freedom the course gives me to address each student's particular needs as an English language learner.
