Camp Duties
This year at Ormþing LXI, all camps will have a set list of simple duties to perform while they're staying on-site.
This system will enable us to ensure that jobs are shared fairly between all the encampments, and that all of us are contributing to the smooth running of the event!
These duties will include sorting and delivering your camp's rubbish and recycling to the recycling station on the camp site, as well as cleaning and tidying communal areas on a rota basis.
This system comes direct to Insulae Draconis from the good stewards of Double Wars, where this system is implemented with great success!
Volunteering Roles
As ever, the SCA relies on volunteers to run events and provide all our excellent opportunities for medieval fun. If you'd like to contribute to the event, there are handy tick boxes on the reservation form. If you're not sure which of these would best fit your skill set, or you think that you can offer something which isn't on the list, please send us an email.
The following is a brief outline of the sort of volunteers we require at the event:
Feast. Volunteers are always needed for feast. If you think you can help out with the cooking in the kitchen on Friday or Saturday, or you're happy to help with the kitchen clean-up after feast, we can definitely find a use for you! This year's feast will be served as a buffet, so volunteers are needed to take dishes out to the serving areas, but not to serve individual courses. This means the servers can sit down and enjoy feast with all their friends.
Site Decoration. We require volunteers to dress the site. If you can help by providing heraldic displays at the event and decorating the site, we'd love to hear from you.
Day and night stewards. Day and night stewards are responsible for the site for a set period.
Recycling Point. This year all our recycling needs to be sorted by type. The consequences for failing to do this are DIRE! Or, at least, they will be very, very expensive. All camps are required to sort their recycling into transparent bags provided and to bring those bags to the recycling point. Then, before those bags can be put in the appropriate bins, we need volunteers to check there is no contamination in each bag, then add them to their appropriate bin. For more information on the Bin Rules this year, see the Site Rules.
Marshals. As ever, we require marshals for our combat and archery activity. If you're an authorised marshal or a marshal in training, let us know!
Site set-up / take-down. If you're planning to be around on Wednesday / Sunday, this is a great way to help out and learn more about how period tents work. And your fellow campers will be very glad of your assistance!
Heralding. Heralds are for life, not just for court! Calling the hours keeps the event on track and means that everyone knows what's happening and when. If you love shouting and being useful, this is the job for you.
