Fencing

Fencing from the Ground

Mistress Catlin will lead this class in fencing from the ground. All who have fought Catlin know that, when she sits down on the field, someone is about to feel the point of her blade!

Fabris Series

In a series of classes, Dame Leonet will teach Fabris to all who are willing to learn the way of this master.

Dame Leonet wields rapiers in a competition at a previous Ormthing event. Behind her is a marshal, and some spectators. The castle walls are decorated with SCA heraldry behind them all.

Fencing while Female

Mistress Catlin will lead this class in Fencing While Female. Catlin is one of our most experienced female fighters who has been a member of the Order of Defence since 2018.

Rapier & Cloak

Sir Logos will lead this introductory class on the noble art of Rapier and Cloak.

Fabris II with Logos

Sir Logos will hold a class in deconstructing Book II of Fabris.

Blindfolded Fencing

Lady Adelheid von Kratenberg will lead this class aimed to educate fencers and non-fencers in the challenges faced by visually impaired fighters.

This will be a practical class with no competitive elements, but boffers may used in controlled scenarios to teach participants on how to use other senses to navigate situations. If you have a fencing mask of your own, you should bring it. You do not need to be an authorised fencer to attend this class.

Two participants use boffers while their eyes are closed during last year's class. Adelheid stands behind, directing the experience. Other participants watch. The class takes place in a castle room with decorative windows and a wooden wardrobe to the right.

Longsword with Leonet

Dame Leonet will run a Longsword class that may or may not be titled The Unkindest Cut of All.

Prize Plays

We will be holding Academy of Defence Prize Plays during the event.

Richard de Tyderyngton will be playing for his Free Scholar prize. Richard is sponsored by Alessanda di Riario Falkenstein.

A prize play participant fights in a tournament at a previous event. The fighting arena is decorated with bunting and a marshal oversees the fight.

Castle Battle

Brace yourselves for an epic adventure as the Castle comes under siege. Immerse yourself in the strategic chaos as you partake in archery contests, hone your swordsmanship, and fortify the castle walls against impending foes.

Gather your courage and defend the castle with all your might! The Castle Defence is upon us, and we need your strength, bravely standing atop the mighty walls.
