The Cavalry attend Ormþing to train their steeds in the arts of War.
These are known as Mounted Skill at Arms and include tilting for rings with a spear, throwing the javelin, and beheading our enemies (of the cabbage variety!). We also practice hitting the quintain with the lance – a period training tool for practising jousting.
At Ormþing , the cavalry will to compete to decide the Equestrian Protector - the winning rider of the event who will wear the Protector's cloak - and the Equus Bellator - the best Warhorse of the event.
The cavalry will also demonstrate their skills for all willing to watch.
New for Ormþing LXI, the cavalry will perform in a "pop-up" arena in the Main Camping Field so their competitions will be accessible for all spectators.
Other training will occur in the Equestrian Camping Field, a short walk from the main camping field.
