Here on this glorious field of battle Comes the Oxford Roll, Come the Shires!
Only one shire among many shall win this day. By feat of arms, by cunning and oft times skill. A Tourney that is long remembered in the minds of both warriors and kin. Many a song of the Oxford Roll, of glory and infamy at arms shall be sung around these camp fires for a hundred years! Such as the tale of the mighty Shire of Dun in Mara, where the stalwart Mícheál Breathnach won single handed against many foes, for while he watched his enemies sink into madness and murder, "he rested, with his Broadsword on his Knee...".
A melee battle where alliances are made, broken, remade and lost.
All combatants of the winning shire shall have the arms they bear this day enshrined upon the Oxford Roll for all to witness.

Night falls and the castle stands in darkness. The stillness is broken by the clank of armour. From the black, a knight emerges and a torch flares brightly. One by one, the torches are lit around the list field and cast their reddish glow on that little patch of ground that heavies call the Eric. And now the night is filled with metal clanging, rattan thumping, spectators cheering and knees creaking...
